In 1985, Clarence took interest and started recording and performing music as a hobby. In addition, he was also a disc jockey for the local high school, with the aid of his cassette recorders, microphones, and turntables. Throughout his teenage years, he experimented playing and remixing different 12" records by adding keyboard sounds to his performances. This marked the beginning of his music career. Interested in rhythmic syncopated styles, Clarence enjoyed incorporating styles of rap music to pre-arranged songs. Everything ranging from rap to house music stimulated his interests. Realizing that his interest in music production of music went on to become a passion, Clarence became a sound creator for Ja-Am Systems, a local sound engineering company. He performed sound programming by altering wave forms and creating different sounds with synthesizers. This experimentation led to his interest in New Age, such as "Environmental Music" relating to textured styles of music.
In 1986, Musical Instrument Digital Interface, better known as MIDI, revolutionized the music industry throughout the world. This international standard, allowing communication of musical performance by means of digital signals, intrigued Clarence. This new development sparked his desire to collect an array of musical equipment. Clarence used his knowledge and ability to compose music.
Traveling to Japan in 1990 with the Mesa Community College Choral group was definitely a highlight for Clarence. The group traveled to eight major cities and performed concerts, at which Clarence was requested to display his God-gifted talent at the piano. He performed works of classical music from Chopin, Beethoven and Bach. In addition to his trip to Japan, Clarence also received 'Music Student of the Year' for helping his fellow classmates after school hours to acquire more knowledge about music. Upon returning from Japan, Clarence's parents consented in converting two of the rooms in their home to a recording studio. This is where Clarence has since applied his mastered skills along with the equipment accumulated during previous years, to compose and produce music for many talented artists. In addition to his creating music, Clarence also manages to teach piano & vocal lessons and to date, tutors 50+ students.
In the summer of 1990, a band
named Soundwaves San Diego began. This is a group consisting of Abe and Clarence
(saxophones and keyboards) along with male and female vocalists. This group
performed mainly at Filipino-American community organizations. Due to the many
years of dedication in developing and mastering musical skills, Clarence began
making his dream a reality. They grew to popular demand throughout Southern
California. Presently, the band continues to be requested to perform at many
community organizations. However, due to the rise of Real Appeal Productions
International, Clarence, the keyboardist and engineer of the band, has been busy
producing music for both U.S. and international artists. Many musicians even
mark him as a "David Foster" sound-a-like, because of his similar style of music
arranging and performance. (Photo on right: Clarence with "Grammy Award
Winning Record Producer" David Foster)
Since 1991, music production was Clarence's main focus composing pop, easy listening, rap, industrial, techno, and house music. His latest project for the Philippine's most talented respectable composer Alex Catedrilla, recorded at Real Appeal Productions International.
