G. Stolyarov II

I do not wish to be a human being
But rather to become a human thinking,
For that is what shall forge a human seeing
The truths around him without blinking.

I do not wish to be a human guessing
But rather to become a human knowing
And use this knowledge for my own progressing
And acts of good to be on man bestowing.

I do not wish to be an idle creature,
But rather to become a human working,
Contribute to mankind’s creative feature,
And beat back apathy that is around us lurking.

I do not wish to be a human hurting
But rather to become a human mending.
I wish to end society’s perverting
Of truths that I’m committed to defending.

I do not wish to be a human lacking
But rather to become a human wanting,
One who will barriers of evil be attacking
And who will be his worthy merits flaunting.

I do not wish to be a human dying
But rather to remain a human living
To keep on thinking, keep on trying
Through work an order to mankind be giving.
