Dec 2003. FAQs list appended. Last date for admission at Chalmers has changed from March to 15th February. Amount needed for living expanses has been increased that one has to show to embassy. From SEK 63000 to SEK 70000 for getting visa. 1 SEK is Rs 7.8 now.

Some of seniors are getting interview calls and repsonses but ratio is very very small. Saab after major crisis of Ericsson, also fired 1300 of its employees. Now government will support those 1300 employees though! Sweden is the best welfare state in the world(For swedish citizens especially, not such facilities for persons on student visa like myself and other foreign student(excluding EU students they enjoy same facilities)).

I am a Computer Science undergraduate from FAST-National Universty Islamabad. I completed my 4-years degree in June 2001. I joined Elixir Technologies Corporation in December 1999 as a Software Engineer. Since August 2002 I have been in Göteborg, Sweden for higher studies in Computer Science and Engineering. I have started here as a Master's Student in 'Dependable Computer Systems'. Instead of sending emails to individuals I decided to make a webpage and put all the related information. This way it will be easy for myself to append the information and for you , to get detailed information in an easy way.

I pray to Allah Azza wa Jalla (Almighty) that may this place help students, researchers, teachers and professionals who want to get ahead sincerely to serve humanity. amen.
Students studying in different swedish universities have their backgrounds from FAST-NU (National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences), NUST, GIKI, UET-Taxila, UET-Lahore, LUMS, Pak-Aims, NED, Sir Syed University, Bah-hu-din University Multan, Quaid-e-Azam University and UET-Peshawar.
I am first one from FAST-NU Islamabad and Abdussalam Atif is the first one from FAST-NU Lahore Campus. (Dependable Computer Systems).

Admission/Visa Procedure for Chalmers/Other Swedish Universities

For applying to a masters program you need following:
a). 3 Years or 4 Years Bachelors Degree in Computer Sciences or related for other masters' programs. For complete list of masters programs check this link:

b). TOEFL Computer Based Score 213 out of 300. (Very easy to get for those who have been studying English since primary schools. My score was 257 out of 300)
c). Three Recommndation Letters Two from PhD Professors I would say. and one atleast from your work place if working.
d). At least One year of job experience will help a lot but it is NOT at all a requirement. But it will help you in getting admisison in a very tough competition.
e) Deadline for many universities is Ist (and 15th for some others) of March each year. One intake only in a year. It takes around 12 to 15 days for reaching application from Pakistan to Sweden. Send application 15 days before the deadline to be on the safe side.

When you get admission letter it is very easy to get visa, atleast it was for me. You need following for visa.
a). Original Admission Letter/Or Photocopy
b). Bank Statement of your or your close relatives. Containing around 6300 SEK per month for 10 months. One Swedish Koronor(SEK) is 6.48 Rs. nowadays.
To increase the probability of your chances of admission I would suggest you to apply to atleast five universities in Sweden and same if you want to apply to others in other countries. List of swedish universites and their homepages can be found from the following URL:

Scholarship From Swedish State

If you are lucky enough to get admission in any of the swedish universty for a Masters Program, you are ensured for full scholarship for your fees. Even during the studies university give a grattis(gift) to its Masters students of around 35,000/- Pak Rupees. Atleast Chalmers does so, after one year of studies.
You do NOT have to pay anything for your tution fees. This does not matter you study a course for 5 times to improve your grade, no need of any tution fees. Here they respect students (and all) irrespective of his or her grades, religion, colour, origin or sex.
You DO need money for your living, food, travel and books though. That I have described somewhere in this website.
Professors have huge benefits and salaries here. But they are payed from the taxes and swedish governments.
