WHY SHOULD I BE SAVED?

Someone once asked me why he should want to know God. He thought of all religion as being "selfish" and out of touch with today's problems. He said that he wanted to help others, but he didn't know what that had to do with Jesus. My answer to that is simple, and I answer with another question. How can you go about helping people if you haven't been helped yourself? You might be able to help people with earthly diseases, earthly problems, earthly hungers, but only with earthly solutions. To fix all problems, including the one of salvation, all you need is one thing: God. But you can't help people if you aren't helped yourself. Jesus came to earth and did many miracles and taught about the love and compassion of God. He healed not only bodies, but hearts as well. He had many followers and he changed their lives, and he's changing the lives of people right now, living 2000 years after he died and rose again! But even so, he was crucified by those who didn't believe and there are people who still don't believe who persecute his followers. Their hearts are closed to Jesus. No matter how much he reveals himself to them, they do not "see" or "hear", because they are "blind" and "deaf".  It's a bit like trying to get someone to see your point of view when they wont even listen. If they wont listen, how can you make them understand?

"Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand... For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes, Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them." -Matthew 13:13-15
