Garage
A plywood ceiling and foam insulation (blown in) made a drastic improvement to the heat retention of the house, but not enough to keep the shower pipes from freezing.  Goals for this area include cleaning and organizing the usual junk found in a garage, installing a new shower and fixtures in the bathroom that borders the garage, and installing an insulated wall around the new shower to prevent frozen pipes.
Prior to the new ceiling, the roof of the garage had been very lightly insulated with batting.  The batting was held in place with heavy plastic from the time that the garage was built in 1982.  Part of the process of installing the new ceiling involved tearing out the old insulation and plastic which was, in large part, already falling down and hanging in the way.  At this time, the cupelo on the top of the garage roof has not yet been replaced, but it's on the to-do list.  A temporary one of plywood is in place, but is not visible here.
