Grand Rounds 76
Poor sight, OS, for several years
Return to Home Page
Case History:
This is 69-year old woman who presents for poor sight in the left eye of several years. The patient is in no apparent distress. She does have a history diabetes of several years that is managed with a single oral medication and mild hypertension.

Questions:
1. Assuming an intact retina (B-Scan) what is the expected visual acuity?
2. Would a cataract surgeon think that this is an easy or difficult procedure?

In this particular case, the vision is LP.  Due diligence is needed to anticipate the post operative outcome. Directionalization of a fixation light in all  cardinal points, B-Scan, or PAM may all be used to predict post operative vision.
