Grand Rounds Case #83 -

Hypertensive Retinopathy -

HM vision in this Eye. Guess the Blood Pressure!

Retinal Photo, Same day as ER presentation

Case History:
This is a 37 year woman who had presented to the Emergency Department with a 2 week history of poor vision in each eye. Upon presentation that morning, her BP was ??? and with vigorous medical management it was reduced to ????. The physical examination of the right eye was remarkable for HM vision, an afferent pupil  and significant hemorrhages, exudates and disc edema. The fellow eye was also HM with the pupil spared. The retinal picture was similar to the right eye

Questions:

1. What do you think the presenting BP was?
2. What do you think the prognosis is?
