Rules of Employment 2
1-3 At all lessons the following procedure is to be followed unless directed otherwise by the administration staff of RCS:

a)  On arrival, make Company staff / person in charge aware of your presence.
b)  The teacher should always arrive 15 minutes in advance of the start of a lesson at any location.
c)  Start and finish times are to be strictly observed.  If a student arrives late, then that student loses time.  One students' lateness should not penalise any others.
d)  When leaving, inform the company/ person in charge of your departure.  (In some cases stamps or signatures may be necessary when exiting the place of teaching.)

1-4  When a teacher is appointed an ALT, the school(s) to which the teacher is appointed is responsible for the daily lesson timetable and administration for the teacher.  The teacher is in turn responsible for the accurate delivery of the timetable and lessons given to them to the best of their ability.

Whilst the teacher is conducting their role as an ALT, that teacher is the RCS, "R" Foreign Language Institute's representative to the Board of Education.  As it is through the teacher that RCS gains its reputation, good or bad, it is essential that the teacher meet the requirements of the school, to the best of their ability.  Where there are areas of dispute, the teacher is required to inform RCS at once.

1-5 When the teacher is dealing with small sized classes, (and when possible over time, large classes) the teacher should make an effort to remember the names of their students.  It is important that students are not left feeling unimportant.  Establishing identity is an easy way of improving students' confidence in English, and always allows more progressive discussion than simply using textbooks.

1-6 At all times, the teacher should be polite and approachable, but firm when required.

1-7 The teacher's first responsibility is to RCS, and where there is any conflict of interest, RCS must come first.  If at any time the teacher feels that this is not possible, then discussion must be initiated to resolve the situation to mutual satisfaction, or as near as can be obtained.

1-9 Although some teachers may be geographically isolated from RCS, they should understand that our staff is available at most times from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday - Friday via phone, and teachers should feel free to call the office about anything concerning them.  Teachers should in no way allow a situation develop that makes them feel isolated and homesick.  Remember, we are always here to help.

1-10
Where teachers are working and/or living in the same location, they should make an effort to be mutually supportive at all times.

1-11 Enjoy being a language teacher!  Your enjoyment, or apparent lack of, will determine much of your student's  level of interest and subsequent success or failure with the language.  Further, if you are unhappy you can never develop your own potential, and that is always a loss.

1-12 It is important that all clients are welcomed to RCS warmly.  Such welcoming is usually carried out by the administration staff, but teachers must also be aware of this requirement.  When clients are in the waiting area prior to lessons, they should be made to feel welcome by all members of staff who enocuntered them.  A cheerful greeting will suffice, and there is no need for staff to involve themselves in protracted conversation.  However, if there is something to talk about which will not detract from the client's later lesson, then staff should feel free to talk with the clients.  Obviously, such talk must not interfere with the staff member's own work schedule.  It is important to remember that visitors may become clients through this positive approach.

Section 2-1 states a teacher must arrive 10 minutes early--is it 10 or 15?

What happened to
1-8?

Several of us have been unable to get an answer on the phone many times (including when Andrew Taber's car died at 6:00 PM).

This means RCS encourages and supports a union !
