Richard Dean Anderson's Life Story
The man who conquers the impossible on TV's MacGyver was born Richard Dean Anderson on January 23,1950 in Minneapolis,Minnesota.He reveals that he wasn't close to his family and describes himself and each of his three brothers as having been " extremely independent,just like little satellites,going everywhere."
Richard escaped his unhappy home atmosphere by taking off for destination unknown." I had a penchant for disappearing,"he recalls." I started living home when I was 14 or 15,hopping freights and hitchhiking and riding bicycles through Canada and Alaska."
As a yongster,Richard wanted to be a jazz musician like his father Stuart Anderson.However,this ambition was soon replace by his desire to become a professional ice hockey player.This desire was iced when he broke both of his arms in high school but he says," It's definitely my lost dresm."
After studying drama at both St.Cloud State College and Ohio University,Rick went west to actively " learn " the acting craft.He landed a job as a jester-singer in a 16th century cabaret in Los Angeles.His next job in Hollywood was as a saleman in a large department store.
" I started out selling curtains,"says the black-eyed actor," and they quickly moved me up to selling men's shoes."
