DEATH 8 JAN 1829 Saco, Maine
OCCUPATION Shoemaker and farmer
David served in the French war in 1760 under Captain Jeremiah Marston in Col. John Goffe's regiment at Crown Point.  He was David Jr. of
Hampton Falls in 1765, but had moved to Raymond before June, 1771, and enlisted from there in the Revolution.
For this service he was later pensioned.  His pension application states he enlisted December 15, 1775 at Winter Hill, Mass. under Captain James Norris in Col. Enoch Poor's regiment, and served as corporal and sergeant, and was discharged at Fort Independence, near Ticonderoga, New York, December 15, 1776.  He enlisted as a corporal under Capt. Norris May 26, 1775, and again under Captain Rowell in Co. Nathan Hale's regiment for the duration of the war, mustered May 20, 1777.  He was reported as taken prisoner at "H. Town," which indicates he was captured at Hubbardton, Vermont, July 7, 1777 along with Col. Hale and others of his command.
He is described as five feet eight (or ten), dark complexion and black (or dark) hair.
From Raymond, David moved to Saco, Maine, probably by 1780, when his son Benjamin was there.  He was there (Pepperrellborough) by the 1790 census, and remained there the rest of his life.

Josiah /Bachelder/
TITLE Capt.
BIRTH 6 MAR 1752 Hawke (now Danville), NH
DEATH 27 FEB 1813 Andover, New Hampshire

OCCUPATION Farmer
Josiah left his native town in 1782 and settled at Andover, New Hampshire, on Batchelder Hill (named for him) where he cleared and
cultivated the farm now occupied by his great grandson, Hon. Nahum Josiah Batchelder.  This is one of the few farms in the town which has been kept in the direct descendants of the first settler without ever having been disposed by deed.  Captain Batchelder was a man of great physical strength and energy and force of character, and reared his family of five children to the attainment of the best moral and intellectual advantages of the place and time.  He was captain in the town militia. He was the first in his line to omit the "t" from the family name, giving it its present form of Bachelder.
