| Thomas /Bachelder BIRTH ABT. 1766 DEATH 6 MAY 1845 Loudon, New Hampshire OCCUPATION Farmer BURIED Cemetery on Mill Road, Windsor, Maine Thomas lived in Loudon until his marriage in 1787, but in or about that year he settled in Cabot, Vermont. He lived there about six years and then returned to Loudon, where he was taxes 1794-1822. He was elected auditor in Cabot in 1789, and constable and collector in 1793. In September 1821, Thomas sold his Loudon property and in June 1822, then "of Loudon", bought land in Windsor, Maine, to which he promptly moved, and lived at least until 1841, and perhaps until his death. The doubt in this is due to the fact that his gravestone in the cemetery on Mill Road, in Windsor, states he died in Loudon, May 6, 1845, aged 78. - from the Corrections of Pierces' Work by Charles Batchelder Jacob /Bachelder BIRTH 30 JAN 1804 East Kingston, New Hampshire DEATH 12 SEP 1835 Portsmouth, Ohio Jacob lived at East Kingston, and employed a few hands making "Sale shoes" for manufacturers in Haverhill, Mass. His employer, David Howe, Jr. of Haverhill failed, and Jacob lost his own property. About the same time his father lost money through the failure of his brother-in-law, John Gordon, and Jacob tried his fortune abroad. He went to Hagarstown, Maryland, and later was a clerk in an Ohio River steamboat. - from the Corrections to Pierce's Work by Charles Batchelder Phineas /Batchelder BIRTH BEF. 15 APR 1753 Sandown, New Hampshire BAPTISM 15 APR 1753 Chester, New Hampshire Phineas live in Sandown until 1790. He sold his place there June 12, 1790, and moved to Sutton, New Hampshire. He moved in 1792 to Fisherfield, now Newbury, New Hampshire, where he was taxes 1794-1801. He was of Goshen, New Hampshire, in May 1802 and February 1805. He was selectman of Newbury 1793 and 1797. Wothern's History of Sutton (1890), II, 605, has this account of Phineas: " Phineas Batchelder removed form Sandown to Sutton in 1789. He was quite a noted man in his day, being a sheriff, and as such having business in many places. He also was a "drovier," as it was termed, buying cattle and taking the drove down country to sell at the markets of the large towns, and thus made many acquaintances. In early life he had been a school teacher; also a teacher of dancing and etiquette. He was a direct descendant of the noted Rev. Stephen Bachelor of Lynn and other towns at an early date. Phineas Batchelder lived at one period in Newbury, but spent the last of his years with his daughter Dorothy, wife of Dea. Samuel Bean, in Sutton.
