generations.  This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and
thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.  And ye
shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the
covenant betwixt me and you.  And he that is eight days old shall be
circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in
the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.  He
that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs
be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting
covenant.  And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not
circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my
covenant.  And God said unto Abraham, as for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not
call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.  And I will bless her, and
give thee a son also of her: yea I will bless her, and she shall be a mother
of nations; kings of people shall be of her.  Then Abraham fell upon his face,
and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an
hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?  And
Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!  And God said,
Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name
Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant,
and with his seed after him.  And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold I
have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him
exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great
nation.  But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear
unto thee at this set time in the next year.  And he left off talking with
him, and God went up from Abraham.  And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all
that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every
male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their
foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.  And Abraham was
ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his
foreskin.  And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised

Isaac being born to Sarah was one of the generations of Shem.  If you'll go
back and reread the chapter on Ham you will see that the curse is fulfilled
precisely in Ishmael and Isaac.  Shades of Cain and Abel, the younger is
selected above the elder.  It doesn't stop there as we shall see later with
Isaac's son, Esau, who by the way will interface with Ishmael's family.  Also,
Isaac was sent to Abraham's homeland for a bride rather than taking a
Canaanite for a bride, making Isaac's childrem pure Shemites.
Genesis chapter 21:1-21 tells us where Ishmael finally settled, and shows
the start of conflict.  "And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the
Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.  For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a
son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.  And
Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to
him, Isaac.  And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as
God had commanded him.  And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son
Isaac was born unto him.  And Sarah said God hath made me to laugh, so that
all who hear will laugh with me.  Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah
would have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.  And
the child grew and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day
that Isaac was weaned.  And Sarah saw the son of Hagar, the Egyptian, which
she had born unto Abraham mocking.  Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out
this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir
with my son, even with Isaac.  And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's
sight because of his son.  And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous
in thy sight because of the lad, and because of the bondwoman; in all that
Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed
be called.  And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because
he is thy seed.  And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and
a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the
child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of
Beersheba.  And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child
