Just as I experienced the militant attitude over the King James version,
and grew out of it.  We all should be discarding those spiritual clothes that
no longer fit.  If we refuse to do so we become spiritual rag-a-muffins, not
very glorifying to the Lord.  That's not to say that the discarded spiritual
clothes were wrong at the time that they fit.  My experience with the which
bible controversy instilled in me some valuable insights.  I came out of that
period with a very strong 'show me attitude', whereby I now need scripture to
document what I believe, rather than depending on the opinions of men to show
the way.  More and more, also, I am becoming aware of the truth in
II Timothy 2 that tells me that my former militance was not up to standards.
That is not to say that God doesn't expect us to be firm, He does.  But I
believe He wants us to cover our steel fists with velvet gloves.
To sum up, I believe that to study properly, we must invoke guidance from
the Holy Spirit, and then approach our studies very seriously with great
deliberation and patience.  We must avoid coming to a place where we feel we
no longer have anything to learn in any area of the gospel, but rather always
approach the riches of the gospel as a pauper, willing to grasp all that we
are given by the Holy Spirit.  "Blessed are the poor in spirit" seems to apply
equally as well here.  We will have a spiritual need all of our days in this
life.   May you have a continuing hunger to fill that need.
