Our Lord, said that if you hunger and thirst after righteousness, that
you will be happy as well as being filled.  In John 6:41-58 Jesus expands on
this thought, "The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread
which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of
Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came
down from heaven?  Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not
among yourselves.  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent
me draw him: and I will draw him up at the last day.  It is written in the
prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.  Every man therefore that hath
heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.  Not that any man hath
seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.  Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.  I am
that bread of life.  Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are
dead.  This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat
thereof, and not die.  I am the living bread which came down from heaven:
if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I
will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.  The Jews
therefore, strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his
flesh to eat?  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no
life in you.  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life;
and I will raise him up at the last day.  For my flesh is meat indeed, and my
blood is drink indeed.  He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood,
dwelleth in me, and I in him.  As the living Father hath sent me, and I live
by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.  This is that
bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are
dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.".
One of the prophets that Jesus was referring to was Isaiah.  We read in
Isaiah 54:13 through Isaiah 55:4, "And all thy children shall be taught of
the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.  In righteousness

shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt
not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.   Behold, they
shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together
against thee shall fall for thy sake.  Behold, I have created the smith that
bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his
work; and I have created the waster to destroy.  No weapon that is formed
against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in
judgment thou shalt condemn.  This is the heritage of the servants of the
Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.  Ho every one that
thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and
eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.   Wherefore
do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which
satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and
let your soul delight itself in fatness.  Incline your ear, and come unto me:
hear and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with
you, even the sure mercies of David.  Behold, I have given him for a witness
to the people, a leader and commander to the people.".  This scripture would
lead us to understand that part of a search for salvation is a hungering for
righteousness, which we shall receive.  Having received the righteousness, we
are expected to use it in gainful employment for the Lord.  You will note,
also, that the righteousness is of the Lord.  We are to be witnesses unto the
Lord and his righteousness.  You will note that in Chapter 1 we learned that
the Holy Spirit directs us in the paths of righteousness; so Jesus has again
told us that we need and can have the indwelling and control of the Holy
Spirit.
Happy are the merciful.  Psalm 41 tells us what Jesus was talking about
here, "Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in
time of trouble.  The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall
be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his
enemies.  The Lord will strengthen upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make
