seventy and seven years: and he died.".  With only one exception, Enoch, you
should have noted that the Genesis 5 citations each ended with 'and he died'.
Enoch was translated by God and did not die, he was trichotomous, and is the
reason I labeled this genealogical list as trichotomous.
It is interesting to note that in Genesis 4 each of the begats did not
carry the statement as to lengths of lives.  There were no statements like
'and he died'.  Is this an oversight on God's part?  Is this a change in
writing style?  I hardly think so when one genealogy flows into the other.  I
think it is exactly as intended, and in truth, the members of the dichotomous
genealogy were denied the deaths allowed to the members of the trichotomous
genealogy.
Remember that Cain was not 'restricted to quarters' but was nomadic.  As
such, he and his clan would have come into contact with Seth's clan.  The
Cainites and the Sethites had ample opportunity to inter-marry, not only
physically but also spiritually.  If the Cainite Lamech was more evil by the
order of 11 than Cain, then it was an extremely bad day when the Sethites came
into contact with them.
Genesis 5:1-2 says, "This is the book of the generations of Adam.  In the
day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female
created he them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were
created.".  With these two verses preceding the trichotomous genealogy, it is
understandable that this genealogy could be referred to as the sons of God in
chapter 6.  It would appear that the creation restatement between chapters 4
and 5 was not haphazard but purposeful and meant to aid our understanding in
chapter 6.
Genesis 6:1-8 tells us: "And it came to pass, when men began to multiply
on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of
God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of
all which they chose.  And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive
with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and
