 The Superfine Dandelion (don't you love the name), stand as one of Phoenix, Arizona's little known contributions to mid-60s psychedelia. Formed in 1966, bassist Rick Anderson, guitarist Ed Black, drummer Mike Collins and guitarist Mike McFadden began attracting regional attention playing the local club circuit. Picking up a mentor in the form of The Fifth Estate club owner Jim Musil, Musil eventually signed on as the group's manager/producer. 

A pair of 1966 singles for the local Rock label didn't exactly set the world on fire, but generated enough attention for the Detroit Mainstream label to sign them.

Produced by Musil (who also co-wrote all ten tracks), 1968's "The Superfine Dandelion" repackaged the previously released singles with eight new studio efforts. With Collins and McFadden separately responsible for the majority of material, musically the set was fairly varied. While nothing on the collection was particularly original, the band proved competent musicians, offering up an entertaining mix of conventional rock ("People In the Street" and "Don't Try To Call Me") and early country-rock ("Shameful Lady" and the Byrds-cover-Dylanesque "What's the Hurry"). The true highlights stemmed from the band's occasional stabs at psych; notably "The Other Sidewalk" and the morbid "Janie's Tomb". A commercial non-entity, the band subsequently called it quits. Anderson reappeared in Beans and The Tubes !!!. Black and McFadden found employment as members of Goose Creek Symphony (see separate entries).
