This section is focused to present light information and images of the diferent birds of prey species used in Mexico on falconry and hawking activities

In "falconers language" there are two kinds of birds of prey "Long Wings" and "Short Wings", however I have decided to observe cientific clasification and present the diverse genus of birds of prey, in order to present versatil information to all people.

A special section is dedicated to present the best Mexican falconers and the hunting events held in this country.

FALCONS

EXOTICS & HIBRIDS

FALCONIFORMES : Falcons are distinguished from other raptors by their long pointed wings, short tail, thooted beak, long digits and thigth plumage, they are capable of stooping at speeds of 240Km and they are the lords of the open sky, they are used in waiting on flights or "Altaneria" (as it's called in spanish)

In Mexico there are 8 diferent falcon species, all of them are used in falconry activities .

HAWKS

BUZZARDS

ACCIPITERS: This highly evolved hawks are distinguished by their short and broad wings, long tails, sharp beak, long tarsus and claws, this birds posses an incredible agility and a strong temper that makes them letal, their preffered hunting style is surprise attack, and they are capable of flying at 60Km across thick bushes, they prefer the cold forest of the north regions.

In Mexico inhabit 3 species.

BUTEOS: This kind of hawks are very versatile and adaptable races, their are characterized by their long and broad wings, triangled shaped head, soft plumage and strong complexion.
They inhabit almost all regions of the world excluding Antartida, they are great stayers and they hunt fur and feather creatures.

In Mexico there are 12 diferent buteo species and one parabuteo.

EAGLES

HAWKEAGLES

There are many eagles genus in the world, however the ones that are really usefull for falconry activities are mostly of the genus AQUILA, HARPYALIAETUS Y HIERAAETUS, This are big sized heavy raptors with long broad rounded wings, short tail, lon beaks and powerfull claws, they can be flown on waiting on style as well as the traditional direct flight style. Their power and capabilities are too much for their practical use in Mexican hawking.

SPIZAETUS Hawkeagles are an unique race of midium sized tropical birds of prey that posses the virtues of the accipiters but the fisic and temper of an eagle, their wings are broad and short, their tail is long and the head is triangular and crowned with a feather crest, long and sharp beaks and short fingered claws, they are capable to hunt fur and feathers..

In Mexico 3 species inhabits the rain forest of the south extending their range down to Southamerica.

FALCONERS AND EVENTS

OWLS

STRIGIFORMES Owls don't have a meaninfull use in falconry activities, however some falconers have trained them, therefore and in order to present all birds of prey to the public I had included this section.

Owls have a soft plumaje that makes them a silent flyers, they have robust complexion, long broad rounded wings, and big eyes that are adapted to see in the dusk.
