Back Issue #11

March 21, 2003     V1N11
Hi, so how are all of you? Today is techinically the first day of spring; that aside God's been pretty good to me. The sun is shining, the (goat) kids are playing in the sun, and I'm in a good mood. "Walking in sunshine all of my journey..."
The 7 Ups

1.  Wake Up !!
Decide to have a good day.
"This is the day the Lord hath made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Psalms 118:24

2.  Dress Up !!
The best way to dress up is to put on a smile.
A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
"The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.
Man looks at outward appearance,
but the Lord looks at the heart."
I Samuel 16:7

3.  Shut Up!!
Say nice things and learn to listen.
God gave us two ears and one mouth,
so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking.
"He who guards his lips guards his soul."
Proverbs 13:3

4.  Stand Up!!
. . . for what you believe in.
Stand for something or you will fall for anything.
"Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time,
we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good..."
Galatians 6:9-10

5.  Look Up !!
. . . to the Lord.
"I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me".
Philippians 4:13

6.  Reach Up !!
. . . for something higher.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and lean not unto your own understanding.
In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path."
Proverbs 3:5-6

7.  Lift Up !!
. . . your Prayers.
"Do not worry about anything; instead
PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING."
Philippians 4:6

Verse of the Issue
Following is what I'm hoping will be a regular feature. Sara Deatherage of Idaho graciously agreed to do the first one. Thanks, Sara!

"...the joy of the LORD is your strength." Nehemiah 8:10b
Jesus came that we might have life, and that our joy would be full! As the Bride of our Beloved King we can have joy, true joy. So many times when I'm not trusting in the LORD and focusing on His lovely face I lose my joy and peace. Verses like this one are such good reminders to me! It is God's heart for each of His children to have true joy. And that is where our strength lies, too! A discouraged soldier does not take on the foe in the might and power of Jesus' name! So, let's trust in the LORD and draw our joy from Him alone, "...for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

One Step at a Time
Dear, God, I thank you
        For the peace and quiet
Of meditation with You and Your Word.
For a mountain in the distance,--
        The moving misty clouds,
Leafless trees reaching their arms heavenward
        In praise and thankful laud.
If my soul is in turmoil
And I know not which way to take,--
You send reason to my mind
To guide me through the quake.
Journeying on the sea of life
        As the waves billow and
        There is strife. . .
In the midst
         Comes a calmness of soul
         As He whispers to me
         "Let ME take control!"
Stepping forward in faith
         I trust to move ahead,--
May this ever be the goal
As by HIM  I am safely led.
God loves to do
What seems impossible to you and me!
        "Oh, open our eyes
         That we may truely see!"

Selected Sayings
1. If  you don't stand for something, you are likely to fall for anything.

2. As long as I see anything to be done for God, life is worth having, but O how vain and unworthy it is  to live for any lower end!   -David Brainerd

3. It's not the gales, but the set of the sails that determines which way you go.

4. In company, guard your tongue; in solitude, your heart. Our words need watching, but so also do our thoughts and imaginations, which grow more active when we are alone.   -Spurgeon

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring, and a sunrise every morning.
Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen.
He could live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart.
What about the Christmas gift He sent you in Bethlehem;
not to mention that Friday at Calvary.
Face it, He's crazy about you.
