For truth is reality. That which is false is unreal. The more clearly we see the reality of the world, the bettter equipped we are to deal with the world. The less clearly we see the realities of the world -- the more our minds are befuddled by falsehood, misperceptions and illusions -- the less able we will be to determine correct courses of action and make wise decisions. (M.Scott Peck: The road less traveled, pg 44)

Truth resides in every human heart, and one has to search for it there, and to be guided by the truth as one sees it. But no one has a right to coerce others to act  according to his own view of truth.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every day is a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.

He or she may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door, laughing,
and invite them it.

Be grateful for whoever comes
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Lesson 1: Life is learning
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear

Everything that happens to you, every situation, challenge and problem, every person you meet along your unique path in life provides you with the opportunity to learn everything you need to know in order to naturally develop into your authentic and higher Self, filled with infinite love, creativity, happiness and peace. How to recognize, honor and learn from the teacher contained within all experience, those filled with joy, love and happiness, as well as those clouded by fear, doubt, anxiety, depression, rejection and isolation is the purpose of lesson one.

From the time we enter kindgergarden, until we graduate school we are conditioned by an omnipresent external authority to become a certain way. As we 'grew up' we were busy dealing with a great amount of external pressure and expectations our innate humanity went through the process of radical transformation. Slowly over time we lost our ability to think for ourselves since we are too busy taking notes and memorizing facts.  Our natural wonder and curiosity which we all possess as children, our desire to understand and to explore the world on our own terms gets lost in the process of formal education with its emphasize on obedience, conformity and living up to external expectations. We cease to be amazed about life, external pressure replaces internal activity and interest, and we slowly become alienated from our innate human powers and natural endowments.

Learning for example, something which is a very natural element of what it means to be alive (just observing young children reveals their natural  interest, wonder and desire to understand themselves and life in general)  becomes a routine, something one has to do in order to make the grade or to pass a test; it no longer stems from our innate interest, ceases to be something one wants to do, but becomes a function on has to fulfill. Most all of our natural human endowments go through the process of external conditioning, they eventually become completely alienated from ourselves and take on the form of something mechanical and artificial.

When we came into this world we were all basically very innocent, fully open to the world and blessed with a great amount of unconditional happiness and love, both of which we were able to fully express and share with others. Our innate sense of wonder propelled us in the direction of natural learning and  be-coming.

This was our authentic higher Self, a state of pure beingness, oneness and active awareness.

As we 'grew' older  external pressure replaced internal activity and interest. Learning for example, a very natural and essential element of what it means to be alive became a routine, something one had to do in order to make the grade or to pass a test; it no longer stemmed from our innate interest, ceased to be something one wanted to do, but instead became a function on had to fulfill. Most all of our natural human endowments went through the process of external conditioning.

Since we are required to live up to and are measured and judged against a great number of external rules and guidelines we began looking for what we need or want in the world outside of ourselves. An overemphasize of external goals and rewards, on achievement, producing, consuming, competing and performing, all of which are essential elements of our marketing society instills within us the dangerous and misleading idea that life is not only about the pursuit of happiness and meaning, but also the accumulation of more and more things and possessions.

From that moment on we basically remain unchanged, do not question anymore our views and opinions since we are busy defending that which we stand for. It is then that our primary focus about personal change has developed: We seek to change that which we do not want or like in our lives such as our jobs, earn more money, gain a higher degree of external success, find friends who are less annoying and make us feel better about ourselves, and live in a more stimulating and positive environment where we have the freedom to live our lives the way we want to. In other words, our main focus in to seek change in the external.

Each and every human being possesses an unlimited, and yet to be discovered array of natural human endowments, among them our capacity for love, happiness, reason, our unique human potential, as well as a variety of human virtues such as patience, kindness, compassion, empathy and humility. The problem is that most of us are not aware of those powers within ourselves because the circumstances of our lives have never called them forth.

How to realize those powers within ourselves in order to actualize ourselves based upo that awareness is the main purpose of what we are here to learn.
I am proud to present to you the concept which lies at the foundation of our studies together:

realize t2o actualize

My name is Christoph P. Ebert, and I am a post-graduate Student in the School of Life. Every since I was a child I had the strong desire to grasp the meaning of existence, trying to understand the motivation behind human behavior, the underlying reasons for suffering, conflict, violence and war. This quest has lead me through some very unique and life transforming experiences, all of which have provided me with much significant insight and knowledge.

I began on my active personal studies in the early 90’s, a time during which I was going through some radical changes and challenges in my life. On January 19 1991 I left my home in Germany, moved to Kansas and became part of a whole different culture and ethnicity.

My marriage of 12 years was overshadowed by a great amount of conflict and drama, which put me face to face with my own personal limitations and shortcomings. This experience opened me up to a great amount of introspective learning, examination and conscious transformation. It is this scenario which set the stage for my personal studies.

In 1993 I came across the whole subject of self-help, something which was very new to me at the time. I became instantaneously fascinated by the whole idea of working on myself, especially since I was facing some very serious challenges in my own life. A few month into my studies I was lead to Stephen Coveys the 7 Habits of highly effective people. In it I found the concept which opened my eyes to the true essence of personal freedom; between what happens to you, and your response to what happens to you lies your ultimate freedom to choose your response.

Since then I have studied hundreds of books, articles, tapes and essays on subjects such as personal growth, interpersonal relationships, teamwork, management, and leadership. Among those who have inspired me to achieve personal and professional excellence were Dr. Wayne Dwyer, Deepak Chopra, Leo Buscali, John Bradshaw, Erich Fromm, Dale Carnegy, Anthony Robbins, Peter Drucker, Tom Peters, Ken Blenchard and Earl Nightingale.

After I moved from Kansas to San Francisco in December of 2003 I have dedicated myself exclusively
to continue on my studies, the product of which is realize2actualize.

Realize2actualize offers a variety of highly inter-active and customized learning programs and self-help tools such inspirational and motivational seminars, workshops and lectures, guided discussion and study groups, online forums, video and telephone conferencing, and personal coaching.

If you are interested in a physical meeting I would like to invite you to a series of introductory mini workshops here in the city. To participate please contact me with your availability after 6pm on weekdays, and during weekends, and I will arrange for a meeting with other interested individuals. Since I am living in the lower Haight Ashbury area of San Francisco, and I don’t have a regular room yet to meet in I would like to meet in the ‘Café International” at the corner of Fillmore and Haight. Our group will vary between 3-8 members, and last between 45-90 minutes. Participation is free of charge, but a small donation between $10-$25 would be appreciated, depending on what you are able to afford, and the value you take away from the meeting.
