Fleeting Freedom Come
1/9/04
Wander, wonder, plunder, toil, a life once lived above the soil
Now lies beneath the upturned grass, sent away to home at last
The fallen tears have all been spent, they’ve all left flowered ornaments
And years have passed since that day, the blackened coals have turned to gray
We’re free of our institutions, said to give our noble light
Our solemn resolutions, blind our realistic sight
We’re free, free from what you’ve offered – again, entwined within it all
You see, It’s all been altered – And we can’t see its new downfall
Open eyes so you can see, this world’s not big enough for me
And laid upon its hollow back, it beckons us to get on track
But we know better than to take advice from those who’ve made mistakes
And even when we’ve done it all, there’s still a chance to slip and fall
We’re free of our institutions, said to give our noble light
Our solemn resolutions, blind our realistic sight
We’re free, free from what you’ve created – along with all that you’ve destroyed
And it’s so complicated – the shallow depths of all you’ve deployed
Once again it seems so clear we fall away more by the year
And even though we dot the I’s, search for perfection shatters skies
So as we see just what we lack, all bronze and gold will fade to black
And as we reach what we can’t hold, within our minds it will turn cold
We’re free of our institutions, said to give our noble light
Our solemn resolutions, blind our realistic sight
