Hang On

March 26, 2002

Welcome to the world now, it’s time for your real life

You put all sorts of people through all sorts of pain and strife

You think that you are better than we could ever be

But you just base that on level of popularity

I may seem kind of bitter, but you think you’re so smart

So tell me how could you tarnish a living work of art

You think you’re so perceptive, this the wrong way may rub

But I don’t want to be involved in your membership club!

Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on

Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on

Your mothers always told you that you were just the best

And so you stayed up-to-date on the ways that you dressed

You think you are so perfect, but here is your surprise

You’re much less perfect than any of the other guys

You me be kind of nice to me, so I’ll be nice to your face

But inside I’m feeling just like the entire human race

Little kids want to be like you, but their dreams you have snubbed

So I don’t want to be involved in your membership club!

Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on

Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on

My life has been shattered, can’t you understand

You’re not the only group, so lets live hand-in-hand

My dreams you have slandered, my thoughts and feelings too

If there’s one thing I never want to be, it is just like you

Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on

Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on

Welcome to the world now, it’s time you understood

That sometimes people like me simply view you as no good

You never gave us answers, just empty-ended threats

You called us all by childish names, for this we won’t forget

The times that you have hurt us, the ways that you have tried

The times my friends comforted me till all my tears were dried

The times that you were lonely, we could have helped you out

But you just shunned us before you know what we were about

There is no way in which you could end all my lasting pain

Because you all insist on playing this stupid game

The people you hang out with are beautiful and thin

And with those crazy standards, I never will fit in

Your mothers and your fathers, they must be very proud

And this time I will say it even louder than out loud

Little kids want to be like you, but their dreams you have snubbed

So I don’t want to be involved in your membership club!
