If I Should Die Tonight

1/2/04

If I should die tonight, I needn’t wake tomorrow

Except with the intention to absolve you of your sorrow

To sit by your side and comfort you the truly final time

To give the final kiss goodbye, to show you that you’re mine

If I should die tonight, I needn’t wake in dawn

I’d watch you as you’re sleeping, with your subtle smile on

And when you’d fully woken, I would hope that you would feel

My presence all about you, with a feeling so surreal

If I should die tonight, I needn’t wake in day

But to be the wind to brush your face and then fly far away

To be in you forever, a lasting memory

I’d hope that in everything you’d see a piece of me

For even if I’ve never lived life to its full delight

I feel that it would be okay if I died tonight

Because I know if you’d think of me, it would spark a little smile

For I lived my life along with you, and that made it all worthwhile
