There's a girl standing in the street

She never knows just when to pick up her feet

No one's ever heard her speak a word

Maybe she's mute or afraid of the world

What can we do for a soul like her

A common person lost in a common world

Blown back by obstacles none of us can see

Her struggle with life saddens even me

She wears white makeup every single day

The children laugh and then they just run away

No one understands what's in her little head

Maybe a secret she's wanted to leave dead

What would you do if you were in her shoes

Would your expressions sing the same blues

The emotions might be too much to overcome

Would you try to turn tail and run

There's a girl standing in the street

She never knows just when to pick up her feet

No one's ever heard her speak a word

Maybe she's mute or afraid of the world

What can we do for a soul like her

A common person lost in a common world

Blown back by obstacles none of us can see

Her struggle with life saddens even me

My friends all tell me she does her job quite well

But is it enough to break that Satan spell

People need to learn from her silent ways

That way we'll all live much happier days

Sometimes when I walk past her sidewalk spot

I wonder just what it is that she's got

Does she carry everything she owns

Or does she have a little silent home

There's a girl standing in the street

She never knows just when to pick up her feet

No one's ever heard her speak a word

Maybe she's mute or afraid of the world

What can we do for a soul like her

A common person lost in a common world

Blown back by obstacles none of us can see

Her struggle with life saddens even me

What can we do for a soul like her

A common person lost in a common world

Blown back by obstacles none of us can see

Her struggle with life saddens even me
