No Cigar

November 19, 2003

"So close, but no cigar, I barely got away"

The child, he laughed, he touched on base, then ran the other way

Children sing and laugh when they're heading out to play

Then their mothers call them in the house, for fun another day

"So close, but no cigar," the common people yell

The government ain't what it was, it's sure going to hell

No longer do we understand the old Liberty Bell

On simple fragments of our past, we are all left to dwell

"So close, but no cigar," the superhero calls

Finds the strength to break free, tearing down his rival's walls

And his nemesis, although surprised, won't take the shortest pause

The superhero wins the fight, by attacking all his flaws

So close, but no cigar, I almost have you

But distance prevents us from doing all that we could do

Though when we meet again among the glistening morning dew

I will swear to God and Earth that I'll be true to you.
