Moderate Islam Rejected
In his description of authentic Islam, Osama Bin Laden informs Muslims that their return to past glory and the end of their enslavement by infidels is incumbent upon their adherence to the true word of Allah. So-called “moderate” constructs of Islam, employed merely to appease non-believers, must be rejected. Zawahiri cautions that moderate Islam is not true Islam and that the primary goal of Islam is to wage jihad against non-Muslims and establish a worldwide caliphate under the sharia, or Islamic principles of law. Anything less is considered antithetical to Islam and thereby constitutes apostasy. Any modifications to Islamic doctrine as defined in the Koran and the Sunna is strictly prohibited, rendering impossible any moderate interpretations of Islam. In summary, the very foundations of the religion must be carefully followed without deviation and the word of Allah deemed timeless and immutable.
Coexistence with Non-Muslims Prohibited
Zawahiri and Bin Laden enjoin their Muslim brethren from befriending or engaging in peaceful coexistence with non-Muslims. Followers are reminded to abide by the precepts of the “Doctrine of Loyalty and Enmity” found in Koranic teachings and interpretations and to emulate the example of Mohammed who attacked and subjugated infidels. Any expression of friendship with non-believers indicates a lack of faith and insufficient love for Allah. It is impossible to befriend someone who opposes Allah. Fraternizing with infidels is evil, defiles the soul and jeopardizes the relationship with Allah. It is also forbidden to assist non-believers, fight for them or join them in any military endeavors. Muslims must establish their superiority to non-Muslims to engender the necessary hostility to effectively wage jihad, according to the interpretations of Islamic belief given by Zawahiri and Bin Laden.

I certainly agree that the world faces a very real threat in the Islamic fundamentalist regime in Iran, which is represented most visibly by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. But I also hold out hope that the Iranian people and their leading opposition movement are determined and capable of replacing the regime with a secular democracy. The world leaders who support this option include members of the U.S. Congress and European Parliament, in addition to tens of thousands of Iraqis. You are correct in stating that the stakes are very high today in terms of the threat posed by the Iranian regime, a threat that encompasses its nuclear ambitions, bloody intervention in Iraq and sponsorship of terrorist groups throughout the Middle East.

Iran now has one of the world's largest standing armies, with nearly one million soldiers and an active reserve of another 11 million men and women. This manpower capability rivals that of China. I would only point out that at the time of the first Persian Gulf War in 1991, Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world, and after several painful weeks, fell to about the 143rd. My question for you is, do you think a selective military strike against the Iranian government, to ‘lop off its head,’ would be a successful tactic? If we could simultaneously wipe out the top leaders in the Iranian government, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the religious leaders that pretty much control his conduct, then moderate Iranian leaders could fill the power vacuum.

Volatile Chechnya remains a security headache for Russia Russia has published a list of 17 groups it regards as "terrorist organisations", including al-Qaeda and the Afghan Taleban.
Among those on the Russian list is Hizb ut-Tahrir, a radical Muslim group which wants an Islamic Caliphate across Central Asia and the Middle East. It is also targeted by the authorities in Uzbekistan.
The list also includes: the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic Party of Turkestan, the Congress of the Nations of Ichkeria and Dagestan, Jamaa al-Islamiya and the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba.
