Welcome to Michael Harland's Homepage

Michael Harland is a 23 year old student studing history at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. He holds a BA (Hons) in history and has recently completed a Master's thesis on the rise and decline of neoconservatism and the Bush Doctrine's Middle East Democratisation policies.  In 2009, Michael will commence work on a Phd, focusing again on Middle East democratisation and the Bush Doctrine.



Michael's main research interests are:


- The history and development of neoconservatism

- The Bush Doctrine and Middle East Democratisation

- Modern Middle East politics and history; especially in relation to Iraq and the Israel-Palestine conflict

- Cold war history and politics

- Modern international relations theory and practice; particularly in relation to Realism and Liberal Internationalism
