The 300 6 was used in all applications from light personal use to woodchippers to heavy machinery.  There where 2 versons the ligth duty and heavy duty.  the heavy duty features a stornger cam and pistions.  From the exterior you could not tell the difference.

The 300 6 was the best engine Ford had ever made.  400 000 kilometers on it and it would still go strong.  They are very reliable and good on gas.  120 k of 100k highway driving would be about 5 gallons of gas or 1/4 of the gas tank.  they are also very good in the city at around 12mpg and close to 20mpg on the highway.  The best gas milage of the 300 6 would be at no more than 90km per hour.

The 300 6 is a low reving engine with a lot of low end torque.  This is also helped by the 2.75 or 3:1 gear ratio in the dana rear end.

A recomendation of 10W30 oil and change it every 5000k along with a FRAM PH8A oil filter will help induce engine life.  Motorcraft plugs should also be used.  They should be gapped to .45m on 8mm wire.

Every 25 000k the plugs, wires, distubutor and rotar should be changed.

On the 300 6 there is a EGR Valve.  A lot of people say if you plug the EGR valve you get more power.  DO NOT DO THIS! The Emission Gas Regulator is there for a intended purpose.  DO NOT DISCONNECT THE VACCUM LINE TO IT!

The 300 6 also uses 2 fan belts to turn the alternator, harmonic blanacer and the fan it'self.  The second Belt is used for the power steering pump if equipped.
