How To Install Bumber Gaurds
Tools Required
1 socket set or adjustable wrench
Electric Drill and Drill bits
Extension Cord
Power grinder (if gaurds arn't for your model truck or van)
Safety goggles
Hack Saw
Step 1: If buying the bumber gaurds from a junkyard take them off the truck or van. Try not to lose the nuts, as you will need them.
Step 2: Make sure they fit the bumber. If not then you have a lot of extra work to be done. *NOTE mine didn't fit. they came offa a 80's Ford 1 ton van.*
If you are buying these gaurds used cover the back of them in tar to prevent them from rusting out. this just protects the back from weathering and collectiong salt and debris.
Step 3: Mark the hole where you want the gaurds to go. Avoid drilling around the bumber rivits and around the frame. Drill where you can easily use a wrench to tighten the bols. Also make sure they are put at the same space on each side of the bumber. Drill the hole out in the bumber. Titanium bits will work well here
Step 4: Place the bumber gaurd screw into the hole you just drilled. If the gaurds do not line up flush against your bumber this is where you have to start grinding away at the metal. This can be a long and tedious process. Grind a little at a time until it lines up ok. Then mark with a marker along the contour of the bumber. Then grind out to the line on the gaurds with the drill. These will make the bumber sit flush without gaps. If there are gaps a little bit of white silicone can be used to fill in the gaps. Also if need be, cut off the bottom lip of the bumber gaurds just so they fit nicely.
Step 5: Bolt the gaurds securly into place. Make sure that they are stright and evenly seperated from the ends of the bumber.
Step 6: Clean off any bugs, rust or anything off the chrome finish with GOJO ORAGNE HAND CLEANER
