The picture above is from the movie Newsies, which is where I got the inspiration for this costume. For ideas, simply look at the picture above. one thing all the boys have in common is the fact that they are wearing boots. Therefore, black or brown boots will be a must for your costume. next you will need a button down shirt. One thing to keep in mind is that these kids are "poor orphans and runaways" to quote the movie, so the more mismatched your clothes, the better. Once you have a shirt, you need pants. All the boys in this picture are wearing dark colored pants, however, that is not a strict rule. just remember that you should probably avoid denim and clothes you want to keep nice. The more worn the clothes look, the better. Also, knee breeches work just as well as full length pants do, so you can go either way. Next, you will need a pair of suspenders and/or a vest. I say and/or because the vest will cover the suspenders, but suspenders will make it look more authentic. Finally, you will want to top the ensamble with a hat. all the boys above are wearing flat hat, cabby hats, or Newsboy caps, depending on what each individual calls them. Anoth idea for these is to wear a bowler hat. Congratulations, you are now ready to Hawk the headline! |
