Jane Chapman
Nominated by Denise Delphin, Northern Suburbs Community Centre Inc

What contribution has this person made?
For the past 17 years Jane Chapman has been involved with the Northern Suburbs Community Centre Inc. in a voluntary capacity. Jane has been a driving force behind community development in the housing area of Rocherlea. As a result of a community forum held in 1998 where a large group of residents made some decisions regarding their community, the Rocherlea Residents' Action Group formed and Jane became the front person for this project. Jane became involved in the securing of recurrent Federal funding for a youth program for high school students. A website was developed so people can read all about our achievements. Jane organised working bees on the 8.8 hectare block of land known as French's land so that the community can use it as a recreation area. Whilst being involved with all of the above, Jane also served two terms as president of the management committee of the Northern Suburbs Community Centre. Jane is of the belief that communities can do it for themselves.
Why this person is important?
Jane Chapman is important to the people in the community as she has drive, initiative, vision and belief that people can make a difference by helping people to help others and themselves.
