Gasping for air, Sir Daniel tried to break himself away from the large rock but could not move. The rocks were crushing his chest, and if it weren’t for his armor, Sir Daniel was sure he would be dead. When trying to move, Sir Daniel realized that if he pushed hard enough, he might be able to break free. After seemingly endless moments of struggle, Sir Daniel released himself from his precarious position and was presently preoccupied by a perilous pile of rocks. It seemed to be one giant deadly puzzle. However, Sir Daniel did not want to get through, he just needed to get on top. Sir Daniel removed a rock above him and it rolled into another spot. Sir Daniel climbed out of the deadly labyrinth and looked around. Although the chalk had mostly cleared, it was still the middle of the night. Sir Daniel gasped as he looked at where the cliff had once been. There was a giant tunnel leading into the side of the mountain…

It took a while for Sir Daniel to get out away from the rock avalanche and to comprehend what had just happened. Apparently, the dragon had actually burst through the side of the mountain, or had it actually build that wall up to hide its cave? Sir Daniel’s head was spinning with excitement and confusion. He had just narrowly escaped sure death and was now in the dragon’s lair.

As Sir Daniel wandered through the many tunnels, he suddenly realized he couldn’t see very well. What if the dragon came back? How was Sir Daniel ever going to fight in here?

His questions were answered all too suddenly. The cave rumbled with the echo of the dragon’s roar. Sir Daniel could not be sure if the dragon was near or far, but the sound of the dragon was not the only sound Sir Daniel heard.

“Let me go!” It was the “mayor”. “What are you doing! Noooooo!” Sir Daniel tripped on something. Reaching over and picking it up, he realized they were sticks.

He was saved! Sir Daniel had a plan. He picked up a stone and began scraping it along the ground. Perfect…

Minutes later Sir Daniel illuminated a nearby room surrounded in torch-like lights. One of the entrances was plenty large enough for the dragon but only one. Sir Daniel crouched behind a stalagmite and waited.

“Hey dragon, come get me!” Sir Daniel wasn’t sure if he meant that or not. He may have been physically prepared, but he was unsure whether or not he was mentally prepared. His heart felt as if it would leap out of his chest. Any minute now. Nothing happened. Not even a sound of the dragon reached Sir Daniel’s ears. He wandered cautiously over to the dragon entrance. Looking both says before crossing under the doorway, Sir Daniel stepped out into the unknown tunnel.

A flash of teeth! Only by reflex did Sir Daniel swing his sword and that reflex saved his life. The dragon reared back and howled in pain. Sir Daniel sprinted back to his hideout behind the rock. The dragon charged out into the lit up room. Sir Daniel had his longbow ready though. He fired at the oncoming dragon and hit it on its right leg. Realizing that a few arrows would not subdue this beast, Sir Daniel retreated into another corridor. The dragon stretched its long arms into the room Sir Daniel had just entered, narrowly missing him.

Sir Daniel would need an alternate plan. Suddenly the beam of light went out and all was dark. The dragon had blown out the torch-like lights! Sir Daniel ran to the other end of the room running straight into a wall. His eyes were not used to the darkness like the dragon’s were. He stretched his arms out looking for the passage to the next room.

A thought struck him. Who knows what is in front of me? What if I fall into a bottomless pit? Sir Daniel gathered up his courage and treaded on. Soon his eyes somewhat adjusted to the darkness and he had a better idea of where to go.

After a little while of wandering around Sir Daniel heard pounding rain and thundering clouds. He followed the sound until it lead him to an opening in the side of a cliff. Sir Daniel was much higher than when he had entered the cave. He looked down around the edge of the ledge. Yep, sure enough. A straight drop down about a hundred feet with sharp rocks and boulders at the bottom. Only one more thing to make this a perfect climax. Thud! There it was. Sir Daniel wasn’t sure if it was sweat or rain (or both) dripping down his face. Thud!
