Andy Sgrignoli

Star Trek Fan Club Commander

Meet Commander Andy Sgrignoli -- Chief Officer in charge, and founder of the Madison Area Star Trek Fan Club.  Andy founded the STFC at the age of 16, on a bet with his Home Ec teacher in high school.  He became so enamored, however, with the Star Trek series, that he decided to carry on the fan club, and allowed it to consume his life.  Here, we see Commander Andy at the 2003 Fan Club Meet and Greet, held in the basement of Andy's parents' home.

Andy put all of his time and energy into the fan club, and eventually gained moderate notoriety among fellow Trekkies.  In 1979, Andy won the "Trekkie of the Year" award, and subsequently won the honor of appearing in a Saturday Night Live Sketch as an "unknown ensign" along side Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

In 2000, Andy was approached by the American Cancer Society to use his clout as local Star Trek Commander to appear in anti-smoking ads.  The campaign was a huge success, which helped to cut the smoking rate in Madison by a whopping .02% (though not scientific, it is believed that this percentage reflects former smoking Madison Area Trekkies).

Andy prides himself in the fact that through his hard work and diligence, he's made the Madison Area Star Trek Fan Club a huge success!  As a result, at the 2004 Fan Club Luncheon, Andy was asked to pose in his famous "I Grock Spock" t-shirt, alongside  Spock and Kirk.

Andy is an inspiration to tens of others in the area who live in their parents' basement.  Andy's advice to all of them?  Why, "Live Long and Prosper," of course...!
