60 Years of Raising Rabbits

My Dad has raised rabbits since the 1940's.  He remembers getting his first rabbit when he was 5 or 6 and making a cage out of an old orange crate and a piece of wire over the front. As a kid he remembers going to his Uncle's farm and seeing his New Zealand Whites.  During WWII meat was rationed and rabbit meat brought a big price so his uncle paid $100 in the 1940's for a New Zealand buck. Dad's first rabbits that he raised were New Zealand Whites then later in the early 1970's he bought Checkered Giants at the ARBA Convention in Syracuse N.Y.  He later began raising Californians and won several BOB's with them.  At that time he was a member of both the ARBA and the Erie Rabbit Club.  For awhile he was out of raising and showing rabbits.  Then, in the late 1970's I came home from the Crawford County Fair with a rabbit.  Since that time we have been raising rabbits together.  Now he has Mini Rex and so do I. So the story continues.......
