Golden Gates 2001 | ||||||||
Welcome to the second annual Colgate athletics year end awards. This is the fans chance to voice their say on who should be recognized as the best of the best Colgate athletics has to offer. Every week, a new catergory will be up for debate. Some quick rules for voting... You can vote for more than 1 person, but you can only vote once. Click on the box or boxs of the person you want to vote for, then click submit. The Ballot The ballot will be updated twice a week, the mens and the womens ballot is separate, and the catergory changes once a week. The mens voting going from midnight on Saturday until midnight on Tuesday, and the womens from Wednesday until Saturday. Here's how things are different from last year. This year, the ballot will be larger, and will include most likely more people who deserve the nomination, then last year, when deserving people did not make the ballot. The list of people who will be on the ballot are posted below. If someone is missing from the ballot, e-mail me, or post on the message board to state your case for this person, and they will be added to the ballot. Then, after the voting is complete, the top vote getter gets the prize, and the top 5 or 6 get honorable mention and will be written up on this page. So now, without further delay, lets get down to it! note: The order of the awards will be the same as the order on this page, with the exception of goalie of the year, which will be first. The spring sports will be added to the ballot right before they come up, due to the fact that those seasons are in progress. I'm also waiting for my contacts for some of the other sports to get back to me, but I wanted to get this page up as complete as it could be. And remember, go to the MESSAGE BOARD to discuss upcoming ballots and your choices for the awards which are going on. As of right now, the ballot is not complete, there are still some more people to be added and catergories filled in. Rookie of the Year The first catergory goes to the rookie who made the biggest impact their freshman year, these are the players who have a big career in front of them with the Red Raider's and have already had a measure of success. Yes, they are goalies, and they play the toughest position on the field, because when they make a mistake, everyone knows it. It takes guts to play this position, here are those people who have done that this year for Colgate men women Winners: David Cann, Jen Burtraw Coach of the Year Biggest Win Mens Womens at Lafayette (basketball) Bucknell (basketball playoffs) Cornell (football) Providence (field hockey) Bucknell (football) Bowdoin (hockey) Michigan (hockey) Vermont (hockey playoffs) At Princeton (hockey) Boston College (soccer) Syracuse (soccer) Navy (soccer playoffs) Lafayette (soccer) Nicole Scattolini vs Florida Atlantic (tennis) Evan Paushter vs Portlock Jennnifer McCarthy (cross country) (Princeton/ tennis) Maura McCusker (1000 meters at Class of Matt Coseo (cross country) '32 invintational/ T&F) Bucknell invintational (golf) Alice Garnett (400 IM at PL championship, Phinel Petit-Frere swimming and diving) (long jump, PL meet, T&F) Jeff Cowan (won the 1650 and 400 IM at Loyola) The one that got away Sometimes a great effort comes up short. Or you go into a game your not supposed to win, and end up surprising everyone by how close you came. Then there are those great games where two teams throw everything they have at each other, and you end up coming up just a bit short. This catergory is to honor the best effort that wasn't enough to get into the win column. Mens Syracuse (basketball) Lehigh (football) At Clarkson (hockey) Eric Saccullo vs Stoves (dartmouth/ tennis) JR Board (cross country) Williams Invintational (golf) Tim McCusker (mile at T&F PL championship meet) James Hadley vs the school record (200 meters, swimming and diving) Bucknell (Lacrosse) Lehigh (soccer) Womens Holy Cross (basketball) Middlebury (hockey) Nicole Scattolini vs Barry University (tennis) Meline MacCurdy (cross country) Maura McCusker in the 800 meters at the ECAC meet (track and field) Lafayette at the league tournament (lacrosse) Syracuse (soccer) Lehigh (softball) Army (volleyball) Defensive Player of the Year To quote an RPI hockey cheer.. "A dog jumped over the fence" "What fence?" "De-FENSE!" "What fence?" "De-FENSE!" You get the idea, well, a dog is going to have to do more to get to its goal then jump over a fence when these guys are standing in the way. There's often not a lot of glory for someone playing D, and it's a lot harder to get noticed, but these are the people who have held opponents attackers at bay the best. mens womens Pat Campolieta (basketball) Frances Boone (basketball) Mark Herman (football) Lauren Picone (field hockey) Cory Murphy (hockey) Kelly Roos (hockey) Parker Gibson (lacrosse) Meghan McLaughlin (lacrosse) Marc Hubbard (soccer) Sarah Mirza (soccer) Melissa Rawson (softball) Michelle Mahaney (volleyball) Offensive Player of the Year mens womens Tim Sullivan (basketball) Colleen McCaffery (basketball) Randall Joseph (football) Kristine Thomas (field hockey) Sean Nolan (hockey) Heather Murphy (hockey) Dan Grady (lacrosse) Liz Brown (lacrosse) Brendan Skonieczki (soccer) Sena Maziarz (soccer) Amanda Paolucci (softball) Amanda Routman (volleyball) Most Valuable Returning Player These fine atheltes are the ones their teams will turn to next season to provide what they need for a successful season.
