Mens Basketball | ||||
Season Preview 100 years ago, Colgate mens Basketball first took to the court, in the first 100 years of Colgate basketball, the team has gone 1031-1076. They have had 19 head coaches, and are kicking off year three under Emmett Davis. They will begin this new century of play in a newly remodeled Cotterell Court, which has been scaled back to 3000 seats, but the dog pound is still in tact, and those who come out to see the games will have more comfortable seating to enjoy some of the best basketball action in upstate NY. Last years team made the Patriot League semi finals for a record 8th time in a row. Colgate finished 4th in the league with an overall record of 13-16. The team has lost it's defensive player of the year, Pat Diamond, and one of the leagues top offensive threats in Jordon Harris. All league selection, Pat Campolieta is returning, and will lead the team this year in most catergories. The team is going to need him to stay out of foul trouble this year so he can benifit the team even more. He's a solid player and a good leader. The team had a very good preseason, with many players competing for spots and working very hard. The senior class is represented by Robert Akers. Akers appeared in 28 games last year and averaged 3.8 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game at center. He will most likely start at center this season. In addition to Pat Campolieta, the Junior class looks very strong. LaMarr Datcher will be in the running for the small forward position. He appeared in 24 games last season, but saw his numbers slip a little. He will have the opportunity to spend a little more time on the court this year. Jim Detmer will see a lot of the shooting guard role this year, despite an injury filled seaon last year, he still showed potntial. Devin Tuohey returns for his junior year. He made an impact last year, starting at point guard in 21 games and leading the Red Raider attack. This years sophomore class will add a lot of depth to the team, and has improved a great deal since arriving at Colgate. Marques Green was one of Colgate most valuble players off the bench last year, he had a knack for hitting the 3, he will see significant time at the small foward position this year. Dave Hardy also stepped right into the mix of things his freshman year, he scored 5.6 points per game and will get more time at the guard positions this year. Tim Sullivan is another sophomore who showed a lot of potential last year. He played 28 games at shooting guard last year, and really picked things up later in the season, he's well on his way to a good career here. Mark Marek might have been the most over looked freshman last season. He didn't get much playing time last year, but this year he will be the teams big man at 6 foot 9, 240 pounds. He's been improving since day 1, and that trend should continue. Howard Blue leads the freshman class this year. He's 6'7", 230 pounds and was a high school All American honorable mention last season. He's going to see a lot of time starting with his first game at Colgate. The rest of the class looks very solid, and will be working hard for thier opportunities to see playing time this year. Colgate's got a tough schedule this year. They are playing a lot of teams around the same level as Colgate, and some that are various degreed above that. The goal of the program is to have a winning season for the first time in a few years, and to prepare for and play a very solid Patriot League season. Colgate was picked to finish 4th in the pre season coaches poll, and actually recieved 1 first place vote. Colgate could be the underdog choice of the year, led by Pat Campolieta, and backed up by a very solid team without many weaknesses to exploit, or without many obvious strengths to prepare for. If Colgate can control the pace of the game, they might really surprise some people and finish above the 4th place they were predicted to finish at. November 17th - Hobart Game Preview and Pre game - This is really just a warm up game for Colgate. Last year Colgate won 80-57 Results - Go figure, Colgate wins by a landslide. Everyone saw some action. Frshman Howard Blue worked his way onto the starting lineup, he got 8 points and 6 rebounds. It's hard to pick out who did best, when you are jus trunning right through the opponent. Pat Campolieta looked great, he was really working over the other team. Sophomores Tim Sullivan and Dave Hardy were number 2 and 3 in points. Colgate did very well on getting to the defensive rebounds, but not as well off the offensive boards. Devin Tuohey led a very balanced offensive attack, Colgate did a good job working the all around and finding thier shot. Colgate doubled Hobart in fouls, making 20 during the game. That looked to be the only major problem of the night. 1997 New York State championship Tournament MVP, Chris Fox entered the game after missing all of last season due to shoulder surgery. He played about 15 seconds before reinjuring that shoulder and leaving the game. Colgate wins 99-65. November 21st - At Arizona State Game Preview and Pre game - The Sun Devils finished in 4th place in the Pacific Ten Division last year, so they will be a very big challenge for Colgate this year. They lost thier star player, but returned everyone else. They were only picked to finish 8th in thier league this year. This will be the first meeting for these two teams. They are 2-1 after beating Southern Utah in thier last game. Last year they beat Bucknell 80-55. Results - Colgate kept it close at the beginning of the game, then poor shooting by both sides slowed things down a little bit, and after about 10 minutes, ASU started to build a solid lead. Colgate would make a comeback later in the game, and pull up to a 7 point deficit with about 5 minutes left, but that was as close as they would get. Pat Campolieta led with 13 points and 5 rebounds. In a pleasant surprise, LaMarr Datcher scored 11 points with 5 boards. After the game, the ASU coach praised Colgate for it's intensity, even though the Red Raiders pick up a 64-50 loss. November 25th - At Northern Arizona Game Preview - Colgate concludes it's west coast trip with Northern Arizona in the first meeting between these two teams. The Lumberjacks finished 3rd in the Big Sky Conference last year and have been picked to finish 6th after losing 3 starters off last years squad. Northern Arizona was a 15 seed in the West in the NCAA tournament last season, they lost to St. Johns in the first round. Pre game -Northern Arizona is 1-1 after a loss to UNLV and a win against Cascade. Results -Colgate stuck with them for the first 15 minutes, holding onto a slim lead, when things went south. The middle of the game was terrible for Colgate, who could not get the ball to drop. Northern Arizona on the other hand shot nearly 60% from the floor, they made 8 three pointers and 25 free throws to bury the Red Raider's. Colgate regained its shot, but could not overcome the hole they dug for themselves. Howard Blue came out of no where late in the game to score 19 points with just 17 minutes of play on the game. Pat Campolieta also scored 19 points in this 89-76 loss. November 28th - At Syracuse Game Preview - It's the 142nd meeting between these two old rivals. Of course, Syracuse has won the last 34 of those games, but with Syracuse losing 4 of it's starters from last year, this game might be a bit more interesting. Syracuse was only picked to finish 4th in the western division of the Big East conference this year. As usual, Colgate will be the big time underdog. Pre Game -The Orangeman are 4-0 and ranked 19th in the nation. The victims so far? St. Francis, DePaul, Ohio State and Missouri. The margin of victory so far has been about 15 points, with a low of 8. As a team they are shooting 45% from the floor and 76% from the free throw line. They are also agressive on defense, in the first 4 games, 6 players have fouled out and the team has been blocking a lot of shots. Preston Shumpert leads the team with a little over 25 points per game. Colgate is in for a very tough game. This is a big opportunity though, since Syracuse is a top 25 team, there will be a lot of media coverage and Colgate will have a chance to do something special here. Colgate made news in 97 when they only lost by 4, you could probally expect a margin of defeat more closely resembling last years 93-40 game though. Results - Colgate got off to a terrible start, not scoring in the first 6 minutes. The defense was not able to contain Syracuse, who just wasn't missing any shots, regardless if they were covered or not. Syracuse shot 55% in the fist half, while Colgate was at 28%. The Red Raiders were getting fouled a lot, but not capitalizing on their free throws. They went to the locker room down by 20. I have no idea what coach Davis said to them, but they obviously decided they were not going to lose like lsat year, and came out in the second half a different team. Syracuse on the other hand got a little too comfortable, and they started to put in some players from the bench after three of the starters were in foul trouble. Thats when Syracuse's game fell apart, and Colgate started to rally from 20 points back. In the second half, they would shoot a scary 64%! Martin Marek came off the bench to score 17 points and snag 5 rebounds, it was a career best performance, as he came out of no where to steal the spotlight. Campolieta, a Syracuse native, captured a team high 9 rebounds, and scored 16. Colgate was only outrebounded by 1. Campolieta also showed a lot of improvement, only making 1 foul. Colgate still couldnt catch Syracuse, who was a very talented team, but Colgate made it more interesting, as they lost 73-65. This is the best 1-3 start we've gotten off to in a long while. November 30th - Ithaca 7pm Game Preview -Ithaca is in a tough position, losing 3 top starters from last year, a team that lost to Colgate 64-80 last year. Scheduling this game is Coach Davis way of saying I'm sorry for scheduling the previous 3 games. That doesn't mean we should over look them though, its just a chance to improve our skills over a less qualified opponent. Pre Game - This will be a good game for us to improve in. The Bombers have shown they have some talent at offense, and defense is our weakness. Colgate cannot get over confident after improving a lot in the last three games against tough opponents. Focus will be the key, the team still hasn't played a full 40 minutes yet, and thats something we need to work on. Results -This game was too close for comfort, Colgate had a good start, but Ithaca was able to erase a 15 point deficit in the final ten minutes to send the game into overtime. Campolieta and Hardy made sure Colgate would get the win, but we were out rebounded by the bombers. The defense still needs work, and Colgate could have easily put the game away if they hadn't missed 19 free throws. The highlights, 5 players scored double figures for Colgate, not including Howard Blue, who had the night off. The Red Raider's dodged the bullet in this one, and claim a 83-76 overtime win. December 2nd - Binghamton 3:15 pm Game Preview - These two teams haven't met since 1981. Binghamton goes division 1 next year, so they have been working hard to get to that level. They have an ambitious schedule this year, and will look to make the most of it. They lost 4 players who got letters last year, but I'm sure they will be playing a lot of the freshman who came in to help make the shift to D-1. Pre Game -Their team is 3-3 after a fairly weak early season schedule. Results -I was really impressed with the way Binghamton was playing. Colgate was getting beat on desire. Which is not what you want to see, considering we showed we had better skills. Colgate actually got out rebounded, but shot slightly better, 5 BU 3 pointers in the first half gave them a 1 point lead at halftime. Colgate looked good at the beginning of the second half, then faded away a little, allowing the Bearcats to have a modest lead going into the final 3 minutes of play. Thankfully for us, the BU scoring broke down, enabling Colgate to get to within 3 and seconds left. We sunk a 2 pointer with 7 seconds left, to put us back by 1, and we fouled them on the inbounds pass. Binghamton would miss both free throws and Colgate had a few seconds left when they got the rebound, Mark Linebaugh turned out to be the star of the game when he made a very long three pointer at the buzzer!!! It was an incredible finish, but not the one you want when you think you should be winning by at least ten. December 4th - At Yale Game Preview -Yale finsihed 5th in the Ivy League last year. Should we be nervous? Well, they beat Lafayette and Navy last year, they did lose to Lehigh though, so yes, we should be somewhat nervous. They lost a lot of their core players though, and have been predicted to finish last in the Ivy's this year. Pre Game - Yale is just 1-4 right now, having faced some tough competition. They ahve one senior in teh starting lineup, the other 4 freshman and sophmores. They are playing pretty solidly, but are not standing out on offense or defense, nor do they have any 1 player we should be on the lookout for. Thier 1 win was a convincing one over LIU, who we lost to last year. I still think if we settle down and play a soild 40 minutes, we get the win. Results -They did not play a solid 40 minutes, they did not get the win. It really looked ugly out there. 26, 25 and 59. Thats the number of fouls, our shooting percentage from the field, then from the free throw line. We did out rebound them by 1. Colgate had thier chances, we were tied up with 12 minutes left in the game, then fell apart again. Blue and Campolieta led the team in rebounds and points, but they both had foul trouble all through the game and couldn't get the playing time they needed. Colgate scores just 41 points to lose to Yales 56. December 9th - Harvard 3 pm Game Preview -We defeated Harvard 76-49 last year, but they were without thier star player, one Dan Clemente, a all Ivy League first teamer. Harvard is returning a pretty solid team, and they finished tied for third in the IVY last year. Pre game - Results -Tim Sullivan and Howard Blue set a personal record for rebounds, while Dave Hardy had a career game, scoring 21, 16 of those from the charity stripe. Everyone was making thier shots, as they fought tooth and nail with a tough Harvard offense. Blue and Campolieta continued to have foul trouble, and Campoieta would foul out. Both teams were shooting well, but Harvaed was getting the majority of the rebounds. Colgate lost a few leads, and the games was tied at 66 with about 4 minutes left. Thats when Dave Hardy stepped up to help seal the Colgate win. They just kept fouling him. Colgate wins in a 88-79 shootout. December 21st - Niagara 7:30 pm Game Preview - Colgate lost a very exciting game last year on the road. The game went back an forth, until the Purple Eagles closed things out with 3 seoncs left after a Red Raider turnover. Colgate has a good chunk of time off before this game, hopefully they will take the opportunity to improve and regroup a bit. Niagara lost 2 starters, but 5 players who lettered. This should be another good game. Pre Game -This is going to be a good non conference test for Colgate. Niagara has just 1 win in thier last 4 games, that being against Canisius. They are still averaging over 70 points per game. They have some similar problems as Colgate in the shot percentage and foul taking areas. We have them beat in the depth department, but probally should start cutting down our the number of players who get time pretty soon to prepare for the PL schedule. This will be a good close game. Results - Niagara was not at full strength, and it showed, Colgate on the other hand, looked well rested, and prepared for action. They shot just 31% from the field, while we hit 45% on the night. Howard Blue had a huge game, scoring 17 points, and snagging 14 rebounds. He shot 6-11 on from the floor. No fould trouble tonight either for him or Campolieta, who scored 19 to lead the team. The guards had a very good night, Sullivan and Hardy combined for 33 points and 7 rebounds. The game was close all through the first half, but Colgate pulled away in the second, and kept building the momentum. Niagara threatened a comback with a few minutes left, but Colgate put the game out of reach to win 73-60. December 23rd - At Long Island University Game Preview -LIU took 11th place in the Northeast conference last year. They deafeted Colgate last year for thier first win of the season in a fairly ugly game. They have lost just 1 starter. Despite a less than good season last year, their coach is confident about turning things around this year, he's been recruiting hard, and thinks he has one of the fastest teams in the league. They would love to get another surprise win to prove last years wasn't a fluke. Pre Game -Here we go again, LIU has lost 4 in a row. They suffered a 53-67 loss to Yale earlier this season. They lack a standout player, and while they have speed, they are not shooting well. We need to be strong on the boards, watch our fouls and then we should be able to take this team. Results -After a very quick start by LIU, Colgate found themselves playing catch up, being down by more than 10 at one point. The Red Raiders really played a smart game, they hit thier passes, worked the ball around, had good positioning, they basically did what they needed to do to deal with a more athletic LIU squad. Campolieta dominated the game with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Howard Blue was not as visible as he has been, but he got the job done when he needed too. Sullivan was 3-6 from the three point range, he had 15 points on the game. Colgate held a slim lead at halftime, then extended it to as much as 12. LIU pulled to within 3 with under 2 minutes left. Bill Kern and Howard Blue stepped up at the end, as Colgate worked around the full court press, and Colgate wins its first road game. The Red Raiders shoot 52% from the field, 82% from the free throw line to win 75-68. December 29th - Vs Citadel @ Capital City Classic Game Preview - Pre Game - Results -Ouch, 26 points from our starting 5, Howard Blue fouling out in 13 minutes. Pat Campolieta with just 7 points and 3 rebounds, this does not shape up to be a good game. We trailed by as many as 36 at one point, we were shooting just 36%, which simply will not cut it at this level. Colgate losses 86-55 December 30th - Vs Florida A&M or Morehead State @ Capital City Classic Game Preview - Pre Game - It's Florida A&M who we will be playing. They lost 3 key players from last years team, this is the first meeting for these two teams. Florida A&M finished 9th in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference last year. They lost to Morehead State in the first game. Results -A nice start by Colgate, they led 24-4 early on, but let that lead slip to lead 36-32 at halftime. The second half was close, until Florida A&M went on a 15-2 run to clinch it, with many Red Raiders sitting out due to foul trouble. Blue, Campolieta and Marek all fouled out. Datcher and Hardy tallied 4 fouls each. We shot much better, but they made up the difference with foul shots and a rebound advantage. There was no shortage of offense, 6 Red Raiders scored 10 or more, led by Tim Sullivan with 18. We lost it in the end, 87-80. Time to return home for one final game before we step into the league schedule. January 3rd - Cornell Game Preview -Ah yes, the hated Cornell. Cornell lost 2 key players from last years team, which finished 10-17 overall, 8th in the Ivy League. Last year, Colgate rode a rebounding advantage to an exciting overtime victory at Cornell. Pre Game -Cornell is having a Big Red meltdown, losing thier lsat 4, but besides that, not playing well. They suffered decent size losses to Lafayette, Bucknell and Lehigh, but they got a ten point win over Army. They are really struggling through thier season right now. And Colgate can step in right now for a nice win over the central New York rivals. Results - The game went back and forth all night, with the defense taking center stage early on. Colgate was having tough luck all night, we had pretty good shots, but they were missing. Neither team shot great, and both teams had huge turnover problems. Colgate fouled more, and were significantly outrebounded. Mental mistakes proved costly as the game moved on into the second half. Pat Campolieta did set a career milestone, scoring his 1,000th point. But it wasn't enough to prevent us from getting our first home loss, we lost to Cornell 58-68, in an ugly one. January 10th - At Holy Cross Game Preview - Holy Cross took 5th in the league last year, and the Red Raider's were the ones who knocked them out of the post season tournament. Holy Cross has moved up to third in the preseason poll this year, behind Senior Center, Josh Sankes. In fact, they bring back all 5 starters from last year, including Sankes, who was all league second team, and an all rookie selection. We split the regular season games with them last year. Pre Game - Holy Cross has shown promise in the early season. Possibly with realistic hopes of reaching the league finals this year. They are tops in the league in scoring defense, using thier over whleming size to get to the rebounds. They are averaging 10 rebounds a game more than thier opponents. They also are very capable of blocking shots. This is going to be a physical game. Holy Cross is strong on thier home court. Results - After a few moments of a clase game, Holy Cross made a 9 point run. The size of thier lead fluctuated, from 12 points in the first half, to 5 at halftime. Colgate was down by 6 a few minutes in, but HC took a 19-2 run, to cause a blowout. Howard Blue, no points, 3 fouls and 4 rebounds. Lamarr Datcher started once again, no points for him either. Campolieta scored just 4 from the floor with three rebounds, but he made all 8 of his free throws. So, we were beat in just about every catergory again, and lost 68-55. January 13th - At Army Game Preview - Army was last in the league last year, winning just 2 league games, one of those against Colgate. They were picked to finish last again, but they lost just one player. Army is one of those teams we just have to beat to have a solid season. Pre Game - Army has been struggling on defense, allowing a D3 school to put up big numbers, and they just lost fairly handily to Binghamton, who you remember we beat at the buzzer. We've lost 4 in a row, and this is a league game we need to win. Results -Datcher missed todays game due to a shoulder injury, but Colgate didn't need him tonight, as they toppled Army with a solid game plan and excellent shooting, especially from the inside. Army was also busy looking for some more feet to shoot themselves in. Army missed a lot of passes, shot just 33%, and missed all 11 three pointers they tried. Colgate sank 49%! And we were beating Army to rebounds all night. Campolieta and Blue combined for 48 points and 16 rebounds, both men setting career records in doing so. After a slow start in the second half, Colgate settled down a little bit and held onto the sizable lead it had built up in the first half. The final score was 79-59 Colgate, who is now 1-1 in the league. January 17th - At Dartmouth Game Preview -Colgate and Dartmouth met twice last year, Dartmouth narrowly winning the season opener, then losing by a wide margin later in the year. The Big Green took 5th in the Ivy League last year, and thats where they were predicted to finish this year. They return one all league second teamer, while losing another. Last year, offense was thier strenght, but they lacked on defense. Dartmouth has a 15-12 series advantage, let's see if Colgate can close that gap. Pre Game - Results -A pitiful first half killed us. We scored just 20 points, shooting 17%. A 17-1 run by Dartmouth put the game away before it was half over. Colgate did come through in the second half, getting as close as 9 points back. They shot 51% in the second half. Howard Blue led the team with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Every catergory except for shooting percentage was just about equal, that is and also the final score, 84-68 Dartmouth. January 20th - Lehigh 3:15 pm Game Preview - Lehigh tied for 5th in the league last year, going 8-21 overall. They have also graduated 4 players, 3 of them who were very important to the team. Colgate has won 5 in a row over them, and Lehigh was picked to finish 6th in the league this year. Pre Game - Results - Colgate jumped out to a very quick start, but had trouble putting Lehigh away. In fact, they quietly crawled back into the game and held the lead at halftime. The Red Raiders took 5 minutes of the second half, before they got the lead for good. Howard Blue scored 18 points with 11 rebounds, Dave Hardy had a career high 23 points to lead the Red Raiders, and Pat Campolieta pulled down 5 rebounds, and did not miss one shot all night from the field or free throw line to bring in 18 points. The team shot 53% on the night, and did very well from the free throw line. Lehigh played well, and went on a late game shooting spree, to keep them in it until the final minute or two, when Colgate pulled ahead to win 86-79 January 24th - Buckell 7:45 pm Game Preview - Bucknell took 3rd in the league lsat year, but have lost 4 starters, including both thier players to get post season honors, thier guard, Brian Bailey, is the only starter returning. Bucknell won both games last year, including an overtime win at Cotterell Court. Colgate needs to win both games this year to even out the overall series. The Bison have been picked to finish 5th in the league. Pre Game -Bucknell is 2-2 in PL play entering this game. They lost to Navy and Holy Cross, while beating Lafayette in overtime, and getting thier most recent win over Army. Bailey is scoring over 20 points per game in league action. They have been getting out rebounded though. They have the height, but must be a little slow getting to the ball. Hopefully Colgate can work the ball around, and with the way the guards have been shooting, the outside is not too bad for us. But with Blue and Campolieta both going strong, they can hopefully have a good game, but Bucknell will try to shut down those two like Holy Cross did with thier size. Results - This was a very exciting game at home. Bucknell took an early lead, and took it into the lockerroom at halftime. Colgate was losing the shooting percentage wars, but making up for it with rebounds. Tim Sullivan steped up with Blue going down with an injury, and Campolieta doing less than average., and was the teams leading scorer. For a while it looked like we were going to lose, but then we came back with strong play late in the game to tie things up. Down by 2, and with 15 second left, Sullivan fired a 3 pointer, that would pull us into the lead. He also got the rebound on the Bucknell shot with 3 seconds left, to secure a great 63-62 win for the Red Raiders. January 27th - At Navy Game Preview - Pre Game - Results -Martin Marek stepped in for Howard Blue, who hurt his hamstring in the previous game. He did not really make the most of it. Early turnovers hurt us a lot. But Navy was keeping pace with fouls. And the early game was very close after Colgate erased an early Navy lead. The second half was equally back and forth, but I think we blew a few chances to move ahead. Linebaugh had the big night with 23 points, but we missed Blues rebounding ability. Navy pulled ahead later in the game to win 81-70, but those last points were after we started fouling anything that moved.. January 31st - Lafayette 7:45 pm Game Preview - Pre Game - This isn't your last years Leaopards Results - After falling behind early, Colgate got a nice run 5 minutes into the first, and then again to start the second half. After running away with it, the second stringers got some time on the court. Colgate showed great depth, with 5 players topping 10 points. The biggest difference was in shooting percentage. Thats all it was really. A complete Colgate team gets the 79-66 win. February 3rd - Holy Cross 3:15 pm Pre Game - Results - Colgate couldn't make the most of a hurt Sankes. Fouls and shooting percentage killed us. Marek led the team with 16 points and 6 rebounds. The second half is where they pulled away, 74-65 is the final. February 7th - Army 7:45 pm Pre Game - Results -We shot 52% to dominate the game. Really another total team effort that led us all the way to a convincing win, we even got to play the bench a lot. Tim Sullivan missed just one shot to lead the team with 21 points, while Howard Blue pulled down 6 rebounds. 84-68 is the final. February 10th - At Albany Game Preview - Pre Game - Results - A very close game, we just did everything a little bit better. Albany only had a 7 man lineup, Colgate had 4 players score 10 or more, led by Campolieta, who had 18 points, 9 rebounds. Fouls helped Colgate get over the top at the end. 22 of our points were from the line, while Albany had just 8. 66-58 is your final, Colgate moves above .500 again. February 14th - At Lehigh Pre Game - Colgate won the last meeting. This game will decide who is in 3rd place, and who is back in 4th. Navy is faltering towards the finish line, so Colgate has a chance at moving as high as second over the next few games if we continue to work hard. Results - Colgate played very well, but Lehigh was able to stick with us and tie it at the end of regulation, then they went on to steal a heartbreaker right at the end of the first OT. The loss takes away from a great performance by Colgate. Mark Linebaugh shot 5-7 from behind the arc to score 15 of his 27 points, he also got 7 rebounds. We had a really solid first half, then let Lehigh dictate the pace too much in the second, the final in OT is a loss, 77-79. February 18th - At Bucknell Pre Game - Results - A low turnover game for both teams. Colgate is falling behind other teams in terms of rebounds, and it's starting to be a major weakness. We foulded too much, and Bucknell had our offense scouted very well. The result was a poor shooting percentage, especially by our big guns. Linebaugh and Marek both put in good games off the bench. This game was back and forth all the way right till the end, when the Bison pulled away toa 71-60 victory. February 21st - Navy 7:45 pm Pre Game - Results -This was one great game. Both teams played well, and the action was good. Colgate was once again losing on the rebounds, but Navy was getting itself in foul trouble. However, they prevented any player for fouling out, despite 5 players with 4 fouls. Navy had a very fast and accurate offense, one that didn't give Colgate a lot to work with. The Red Raider offense was a bit slower and more methodical, many times pushing the shot clock. That means we didn't get the ball inside that much, Howard Blue did not take 1 shot from the floor in 34 minutes of play. Dave Hardy became the 10th Red Raider to have 100 assists in one season tonight, but it would not be enough. Navy erased a 3 point lead with 2 seconds left on a shot from the corner. Colgate had chances coming down the strech, but could not put the Midshipmen away. Navy finally pulled out to a 83-80 win to clinch second place in the league. February 24th - At Lafayette Pre Game - Colgate is currently smack dab in the middle of the league heading into the final game. Lafayette is one step behind us, but they are a team people are expecting to ruffle some feathers down the line. The Leopards have won their last 2, beating Army and Stony Brook, they shot about 60% in their last game. They are tough at home, beating Holy Cross in Easton. This game will affect playoff seeds and its a good tune up for both teams preparing for the tournament. Results - February 3rd and 4th - At the Patriot League Tournament hosted by Navy Go to the Mens Basketball page for last year, or back to the MAIN page |
