redshift

So, you wanna know a bit about us, huh? Alright then. What can I say? Well, we formed somewhere in and around November of 2002 when Dave and I decided we were sick and tired of playing bad acoustic cover songs in his living room. This little decision came very conveniently 'round about the time that Megan (our fabulous website designer and #1 groupie) introduced us to Daryl who, from what we've ascertained so far, seems to play the drums. From there, we just started jamming until divine inspiration struck us and we wrote a few songs. Then, we played musical bass players. Our original bass player, Nick, joined because we forced him to. He doesn't really like us at all. But then he got all, "I'm moving to Ottawa to go to school," so we gave him a good punching and sent him on his way. Then there was Mike, who played a two show tour with us in Kingston and Hamilton and then continued on his way. And finally, in a stroke of hilarious coincidence, Matt showed up on our doorstep with a bass guitar, busking for change, and we decided to add him to the roster. And so, redshift was created, and it was good. We're not terribly interesting people, but we make what we hope is relatively interesting music. We draw from a really diverse mix of musical influences and the resulting combination is something that I'm not sure you could find anywhere else. Some common ground that we share between us is the desire to explore emotion through music and the desire to bring as much energy and intensity to the live show as possible. If we can get out of bed the day after a show, then we haven't done our job.

Here's some more personal information for all you nosey fuckers out there:

Dave Reid: Guitar, Vocals- Adding three full inches to the average height of the band, Dave brings the punk element to the band and makes sure that Andrew doesn't make everyone play twenty-five minute songs. He describes Redshift's music as the turkey burger of rock: it's not quite a burger, but it's tasty nonetheless.

Daryl Corelli: Drums- An engineer by trade, but not by social skills, Daryl enjoys breaking pieces of the drum-kit as often as possible and then reassembling them with everyday household items. His musical influences include beer, metal and beer. When asked by an entirely fictitious reporter about why he chose the drums, Daryl replied, "I'm really a guitar player, but I like beating it."

Andrew Loeb: Guitar, Vocals- Best known for consistently making himself bleed in some way at every show, Andrew's turn-ons include archaic surgical methods and being turned on. His turn-offs include 4/4 time, songs under five minutes and Dave. When asked about the correlation between his guitar playing and the stellar orientation of the dog-star Sirius, Andrew replied, "The French Revolution."

Matt MacNeil: Bass Guitar- redshift's latest addition, Matt's presence completes the all-guitar-player lineup of the band. Matt's skill on the low-end has been described as "Tasty," and "Now with 30% more fibre." When asked what it is that draws him to redshift's particular musical style, Matt replied, "I'm sorry, who?"

Nick Loeb: Large-Mouth Bass- Honourary band-member and generally funk-tastic guy, Nick played with us on our first few gigs. He is not legally bound to the band and not legally allowed to play as fast as he really can.

Anything else you could possibly want to know about us and our world can be found in the music.
