Part 2 of the story of the Red Sox vs the Yankees game on 7/27 |
Now that magical 7th inning was over with. It was up to the bullpen to save the game for the Red Sox. The first guy out of the bullpen was Scott Sauerbeck, or as everybody was calling him at the time, Sauersuck or Sauerwalk. No surprise, he ends up walking the first guy. Torre tries to strategize by bringing in Todd Zeile to pinch hit. Grady takes out Sauerbeck to bring in Mike Timlin. Torre replaces Zeile with Karim Garcia. Timlin gets Garcia to strike out. Next, Torre gets Ruben Sierra to pinch hit for Raul Mondesi, whom didn't appreciate that. Sierra grounds out. His final batter is Soriano. He ends up getting Soriano to strike out as well. So Timlin ends up holding the line for the 8th inning. After no scoring in the bottom of the 8th, it soon became the 9th inning. Byung-Hyung Kim, the closer came in. This scared a lot of people, due to his history with the Yankees. Luckily, there was a bit of goodness on his side. |

Kim started off by walking Jeter, whom ended up at second due to a fielder's indifference. Luckily, Jason Giambi ends up striking out. Then a fielder's choice by Hideki Matsui ends up making the score 6-4....this was starting to scare the members of Red Sox Nation. Jorge Posada was up to bat now. Posada loops a shallow popup right along the right field line. Mueller, Nomar and Manny all were chasing after it. Manny slides on his back and makes an unbelivable snowcone catch to end the game!!!! RED SOX IN 6-4!!!!!! Manny is greeted to a hug by Nomar, as his hat also flew off, showing off his fro. The song "Dirty Water" played loudly from the PA at Fenway Park, just as it does everytime after the Red Sox win. They had won the series 2 games out of 3. Everything seemed right with the world, at least for now. All thanks to Tek, Damon, Ortiz, and Manny. Oh and Timlin too. |
