All-Star Mess
After the disaster of the player selection of the 2003 All-Star Game, here's an idea of how to fix it up
As I was watching the All Star Team selection for this year on ESPN, I began to see the people selected. Lance Carter?! Mike Williams?! RAMON HERNANDEZ?! These players were selected in the All-Star Team rather than other very worthy candidates, whom were snubbed because they already had a represenitive on team, and that seemed to be enough. Sure, it all somewhat worked out, but I was upset on the selection process. Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui got the highest votes amongst everybody else, since the country of Japan ballot stuffed on the Internet, Troy Glaus was selected; despite him having a weak season, and of all players, Dontrelle Willis was left off the All Star Team, until he replaced an injured player on the pitching staff. I have this new idea on how to doctor this whole thing. Sure, it will probably not cure EVERYTHING because you also have the manager to deal with and he might be one of the managers whom will make sure all his boys make it on, but this can somewhat help. Here's my idea.

-First off, they should pick the manager. Don't let them be the two managers whom ended up winning the pennant, since that is quite unfair because they could be doing a sucky job in the season that is present. There should be a twenty game period for a trial period and after the twenty games, the commissioner(yes, that's you Mr. Selig), and his minions should look over the credentials, records, and moves the manager has made,  and then select the two best managers possible. They'll compile of list of five or so. Number one will be the managers. The runners up will be the managers' coaches

-Second thing, not every team should be represented. Not every team is doing a good job, and if there's no All-Star Worthy candidates on the team, then don't select them.

-This one I'll probably be fried for but, I believe that every player should have a bit of playing time. That's what they're there for. It doesn't matter if they pinch run, pinch hit, defensive substitution, etc; it's not fair that some people hog up all the time. I was rahter upset that none of the 32nd Men voted in by the fans got to play. It was especially tough for Geoff Jenkins because he got voted in but he didn't get to play. Jenkins was the only one who didn't play off the bench. Jason Varitek and Dmitri Young of the Detroit Tigers didn't play either. Everybody should have a gig of playing time. This may seem pure stupid, but if you eliminate the second rule I added, then you should be able to do this. I mean, they'll all be of "All Star Caliber" so it wouldn't be that bad

-My other idea is the voting on the players. First off, the public shouldn't vote in the starting lineup. I believe they should have a say, but not for the starting lineup. Thanks to them, we've had some rather medium talent within the starting squad. Though this year, they didn't do that bad of a job, it still are a few holes. The public should vote in 9 players. One for each bench position. Though, for the NL, then they can vote in two extra players of their pick. The players/managers/coaches/etc. should vote in 9 players, just as well. That will come up to 18. Then for the manager selected should select the pitching. This is probably where the most argument will come from, but trust me. They'll select about 12 pitchers, ranging from starters, relievers, closers and all that junk. Now you will have two remaining on the 32-man roster. I will get to that next.

-My final idea is for the voting of the 31st and 32nd man. One pitcher and one position player will be voted in by the public last minute. This voting will be just as it was earlier, voted in after the Selection; only a week used for this voting. Then, the voted in will be brought into the game. They should play also, just as rule number three states

Now, you may be asking about overlapping votes, now for those, they just do what they did the years past. If votes overlap, you move down to the next player down for them to become an all star. It has to be one in every position though. Except for the NL, where they can vote in two extra players of any position.

So here are my ideas on how to do the All Star Team voting and selections. I wouldn't like to see what happened this year, happen yet again. Though, it probably would. This is my idea on how to fix it up
Back to where it all began....
