UNBELIEVABLE!
Part 2 on September 23, 2003: The Impossible Win
It was now the bottom of the 10th inning. A new pitcher, Kurt Ainsworth was pitching for Jorge Julio, whom blew the save vs the Red Sox, thanks to Todd Walker. The first batter up was David Ortiz, the one player whom seemed to always have the right hit at the right time. This included tonight. During this time period, my dad had said to my mom "Ortiz is my favorite player. He's going to hit one out, he's a clutch player". Ortiz had worked the count to 1-1. Ainsworth threw another pitch. Ortiz took a swing at it. The ball sailed and sailed and sailed until...........IT WAS GONE!!!!!!!!! WALKOFF HR BY DAVID ORTIZ!!!!!!! RED SOX WIN IT 6-5!!!!! IMPOSSIBLE WIN!!!!! The fellow Red Sox players crowded around home plate waiting for Ortiz to make his round tripper. As Ortiz stepped on home plate, the crowd of fellow players mobbed him, jumping up and down, like little kids. It was a beautiful sight. It was probably one of the most unbelievable wins in Red Sox history. Everybody went insane, gushing in any possible way. The club was in all-smiles as Extra Innings came to be. After the game Todd Walker was being interviewed on the PA by Tom Caron, the NESN field reporter, he asked about the HR and Todd Walker responded "These are for the fans!" showing his love for the fans. How great?! So that is The Impossible Win, a game where everything seemed lost, until the last chance they possibly had. As I said earlier, this game is going to be remembered until the end of time. Thanks to Todd Walker and David Ortiz. I leave you with some pictures from The Impossible Win...
