MURNANE'S BASEBALL
This site consists of a collection of the baseball writings of Timothy Hayes Murnane. Murnane covered the Boston baseball scene and baseball in general for the Boston Globe (1877-1917) and The Sporting News (1909-1917). Tim also wrote freelance for The New York Clipper in 1876.

Tim's accomplishments are not just limited to the newsroom: he also was a player in the earliest days of prrofessional baseball. In fact, He is credited with recording the first stolen base in National League history! Tim also served as the president of the New England League.

Please enjoy your visit and educate yourself in the world of ninteenth-century and deadball-era (1901-1919) baseball through his weekly Boston Sunday Globe "Murnane's Baseball" gossip columns, his weekly team reports for the sporting News and some of his game stories written on early Boston Red Sox and Braves home games.
