Name: Evaleen Bio: I used to live at a beautiful island with my family and millions of other hares. We were all very peaceful and kind. One night, when we were asleep millions of searats led by an evil stoat invaded our island . I woke up and I saw the stoat in me and my twin siter's, Evalin, room. She woke up and looked at me and asked me why I looked so scared. Then all of the sudden an arrow was growing through her head. I was forced out of my room with a dagger at my throat. My island was forced to surrender and we were taken captive aboard his ship. One day a wave through the ship upon some rocks and most of us managed to swim to shore, including my family. I was nought but a Dibbun then. We ended up traveling to Redwall and I spent most of my infancy there. I've been wondering ever since, hoping to find a friend. Name: Reyan Chapter 1 North Ranger Bio: Introduction Kydris and Malstar stood over the basket that held their son within. Wrapped in a soft moss blanket, the otter cub slept soundly, 'What do we call him Star?’ The big male otter looked from his wife to his son. The little otter had dark brown fur and a creamy chest. His eyes, which were closed, were dark brown, almost black. Malstar took his son’s paw in his and turned it over, revealing the strange pink paw-pad with black four leaved clover shape with one leaf thinner than the others, 'I say we ignore this,’ he put the paw down, 'and call him... ...Reyan; like your brother...’ Kydris’ eyes filled with tears at the thought of her brother whom she loved dearly. He had been killed in the battle with the fox horde when he had only been young, 'Very well, I respect your choice.’ The little otter woke up, his dark eyes shining in the moonlight. Kydris picked him up, 'We should take him to Vancé, she’ll confirm his name and his place in the group.’ The three otter’s went to the old fox’s tent, on the edge of their camp. The grey furred fox appeared at the tent flap, ’Oh, greetings Mrs Streampaw,’ she nodded to her, 'And Skipper, sir.’ ‘No need for that Vanché, Kydris and Star’ll do fine,’ Malstar said in his loud bass voice, 'Anyway, can you enter our son into the group?’ The ancient seer nodded her grey head and poured out a bowl of water. ‘Ah! Midnight, the perfect time...’ He trailed off as she took Reyan. She poured some water over his head then took his left paw and draw, with the water, a star on it. She took his other paw, but recoiled suddenly, causing the water bowl to fall over and spill, ’Taggerung....’ she muttered and turned. ’What’s wrong?’ Kydris asked picking up Reyan, who had remained silent throughout. ‘He’s, he’s a.... ...Taggerung...’ she replied, her silver face had turned white. ‘Yes,’ Malstar put a paw on her shoulder, 'You said that but what is wrong?’ ‘What’s a Taggerung?’ Kydris added. Vanché explained to the two otter what a Taggerung was, 'So you see, he must be outcast! Or killed!’ Malstar took Reyan from his wife, the little otter looked up at his father: the big, strong beast with sandy colored fur and deep brown eyes, 'We'll never outcast him! I accept him as a Taggerung to my horde!’ Kydris looked alarmed, 'Yes that’s right! My horde!’ He whistled and stepped outside, Kydris and Vanché followed. Around the camp, silent as shadows, hundreds of vermin had appeared, 'This, Kydris, is my vermin horde! Now come with me, be my queen!’ ‘Never!’ Said the small female otter, who had dark fur, and strange green eyes, 'Star? What’s wrong with you?’ He laughed at her, ’Xann! Ferg! Take her prisoner! Kill the fox!’ An arrow flew from the horde, killing Vanché, the ancient vixen seer, immediately. Kydris was led away kicking and screaming, but no one came to her aid. Malstar still had Reyan in his paws, 'You'll be on my side, won’t you?’ as if in reply Reyan bit down hard on his father’s arm, 'You little...’ Malstar stopped himself, 'You'll be a slave like your mother then.’ He laughed evilly and strode off after the horde, a paw clamped firmly over Reyan’s mouth, stopping him biting. Chapter 1 15 seasons had passed since Malstar had taken Reyan and his mother from the quiet little group in their mountain home. Reyan was now a battle-hardened warrior; he had a sword, two smaller ones, a bow, arrows and several daggers. Reyan opened his eyes slowly, consciousness coming back to him,’ wh-where am I?’ He stood up shakily, and walked through the rain towards the tree cover. He sat down and pulled his grey cloak tighter about him. His black shirt and trousers were soaked, mainly by the sea but the rain didn’t help matters. He pulled up the hood and sat back against the tree and sank deeper and deeper into thought of the past. He saw his mother, Kydris, and the scum he called father, Malstar. They were on Malstar’s ship along with 100 or so vermin, mainly rats but the occasional ferret or stoat. They had suffered for 4 seasons torture of being oar-slaves, now was the time to rebel! Kydris and he had led the rebellion unfortunately his mother had been slain, there was nothing he could do. He threw himself headlong into battle, hopelessly outnumbered, but still he slew about a score of the vermin before he was overwhelmed. He was tied up the ship sailed to the nearest port, for they were to pick up the seer to decide his fate. She said he should live but be worked doubly hard and treated as dirt. When they left Reyan was put back down in the dredges and made to row all night. When he was aloud to rest he was taken to a small cabin, with only a small window (the only light) and a guard posted outside. Reyan broke out and killed the guard; no one else was awake. He strode to Malstar’s cabin to issue his challenge. Later on that night the fight started. The rain poured and the lightning crashed as the two otters squared off, Malstar lunged at Reyan, knowing none can stand before a Taggerung. Reyan dodged agilely to the side, Malstar crashed headlong into the side barrier and flipped over the edge, but managed to hold on. Reyan had strode over to him and offered a paw, ‘ I give you another chance, get up scum!’ The fight continued like this until Reyan decided to finish Malstar off, Malstar yelled, 'Now!’ A huge net fell on Reyan and the vermin piled on top of him. They tied him up and threw him over the side. After that he never saw the ship again, nor them him. Reyan snapped out of his memories to find that the rain had stopped. He hauled himself up; his leg was badly injured and slowly bleeding causing pain to shoot up through his muscles. He tore a strip off of his shirt and bandaged the wound; ’T’ain’t much but it’ll do fer now.’ He limped slowly towards the trees. The night was still, no breeze ruffled the leaves and no birds trilled their melodious songs. He made his way further into the lush, green sea of leaves, but fell flat on his face, exhausted and weary from lack of food. When he woke up he could hear voices. He didn’t open his eyes until he was sure that these creatures were friends. ‘He’ll be find, he’s just tired and do you see how thin he is? I think in a couple of days he’ll be up and gone.’ The other one spoke then,’ yeah, just like all the other ones.’ Reyan opened his eyes and sat up, his waist was bandaged tightly as was his leg. His sword was lying beside the blankets and so were his daggers, some of which he hadn’t seen in a long time, 'Nice job on my leg.’ The two other creatures turn around, they were otters too. They look like warriors, hardened by battle with strong faces, ’’O are ye?’ ‘I’m Daer an’ this ‘ere’s Tad, but we belong t’ the Danzen’s, which I think is the answer ye wanted.’ Daer nods, ’Ye c’n leave as soon as yer better, um, two days or so, maybe sooner.’ Reyan shakes his head, ‘I’ll be better before that, cullies! Do I ‘ave t’ leave? Or c’n I stay with you? I’d like t’ ‘ave summit t’ do rather than jus’ wander with nuthin’ t’ do, no where t’ go, ’Reyan looked up at the pair, 'so c’n I?’ The Danzen healers look at each other and hold a whispered conference, ’Back in a minute,’ Tad leaves the tent. Daer came over and sat down at the end of the blankets Reyan was sitting on, ’’E’s gone t’ ask the cheif if ye c’n join straight away or go through the initiation first.’ ‘W’a’s the initiation?’ ‘Jus’ a test t’ see if yer strong, brave an’ smart enough t’ join us,’ Reyan didn’t look the least bit worried, whatever it was, he was ready for it. ‘I’ll do my best, an’ I’m sure I’ll be part ‘f the Danzen soon,’ Reyan stood up but winced in pain, held his side and sat down again, 'Tomorrow mornin’ I’ll be fine...’ To be continued.... Name: Shade Slipstream Bio: I’m a Nort otter originally. My Holt had some attacks from vermin, but never anything to serious. When I was old enough, I started battling to, and found out I had a natural paw for a javelin and a sling, my weapons. When I became 15 seasons old, I went traveling. I went many places, all over the world, even over the ocean, past Samperta. I talked to seals and met many a strange beasts, but had to promise not to talk about them here, for reasons I also cannot say. Eventually I came back here, and came to Redwall. I met many beasts, and made many friends. But I couldn't hold my wandering spirit and left once more. I went to Salamandastron, and many, many other places, including the island on the Great Inland Lake, now ruled by vermin, all over, even back over the ocean once. But I always come back home. To the Nort Holt, to Redwall, to Salamandastron, all homes to a wanderer. I knew she meant Evaleen. Another season past when a large storm came and smashed the ship. Little Mono fell in the dust, lucky he did, because he made a dust cloud around him so the hawk couldn't see him, it was also night time. The young one has ran all his life, never sure why he never lost his belly. He never knew his parents, he wandered off and never found them. So he decided that he could live by him self. Big mistake, now he's running for his life from a hawk following him for days. At a random time he got up and started running towards the woods to his left, he was a decent tree climber. This baffled the hawk, being young in his age too. As he saw the little squrril run for the woods, he knew one thing that if he gets in the trees, he'll never catch that brat. So he did a dive bomb right for the squrril. The hawk let our a screeching "KAAAAAA!" Mono triped again. The hawk went smashing into the ground, breaking its wing. Mono knew he would die there, and knew he was just trying to live, so Mono decided to see if he wanted help i! n exchange for his own safety when walking though trail and woods. The hawk was young and stubborn about his pride. The bird tried to limp away, but stumbled and fell head over heels, in a ball of feathers. He relized that he wasn't going no where so he decided to let the little black squrril help him. "Sure" said the hawk to the squrril's kind offer. "First I'll have to make you a splint of some sort" said Mono. "Im going out in search of some wood, stay here." A few minutes later, Mono came back with a bunch of dead wood and set up camp on the side of the trail, half way into the woods. There he made a fire. Then he unsheathed a dirk at his side. The bird tensed up. Mono could see his reaction and laughed. "Im not going to hurt you, im going to find a young tree to cut down for the splint. He did, bought it back to the camp site and made the bird a make shift splint, out of the little tree and rope, not knowing how to make one for a bird's wing. Then he gave the hawk some ! food, which the hawk looked at in disgust, like meat alot more, this what roots and berrys. He ate though, greatful to get something in his stomach."So whats your name?" Mono asked. "Keenclaws" replied the hawk. "I'm Mono, Short for MonoTekETeA, nice to meet you Keenclaw" said Mono as he chewed happly on his roots and berrys. The hawk paused for a second "Uh, yeah, nice to meet you too." At that they finished there food and went to sleep. The next morning, Mono woke up to see that Keenclaw had left. So he put out the dieing fire, packed up the little things he had and set of down the road to who knows where. Name: Whiteye Bio: I was born on the night of no moon. When I was born in our clan cave, my mother was so horrified at me, she kept me for a week and sent me off to the Lost Mountains of Aryador, where only the blind ruled. I never knew my family. I lived at Aryador, also called Kor, for many years. Then, after about 20 years of living in silence, we were approached by an intruder. The smell...I'll never forget the smell...The elders sent me out, because I had bested them all at arrow shooting. I shot at the life form, but it was off target, for he too, had shot an arrow at me. It hit my shoulder, and I know not where mine hit his, but it did not kill him. I heard him cry out, then scrabble away. The council decided me unfit for life at Kor any longer, so they threw me, injured and of about the age of 18, into the forest. I tended my own wounds, and by the age of 24, I knew everything there was to know about the woods. I stumbled upon a place called Lancepaws Fort, and there I made a friend. His name was Kitsune Izuki. There was something about him that I just couldn't put my claw on. He told my his life, talking about going to mountains and being shot. Then it hit me. The smell! This, the beast to whom I was talking, was the intruder at Kor. The one responsible for having me kicked out. I began to feel angry, but then realized that he had done me a favor. I told him who I was, and he was surprised, but not shocked. He said he had suspected something was up. Finally, after years of wandering, I came here. |
