Swimming can be used to escape any situation around water and also gives you another surprise advantage when attacking near water.

Climbing can be used to escape any situation around trees and also gives you another surprise advantage when attacking in a forested area.

Tunneling can be used to escape just about any situation and also gives you another surprise advantage when attacking, though it is not a fast process.

Accuracy causes your ranged attacks to be more precise and deadly.

Metalworking allows you to buy special items as well as pay only 3/4 the price for any weapon or equipment. You also pay only 1/2 price for equipment upgrades. In battle, this skill is only useful to mend broken weapons and equipment.

Trapping allows you to purchase traps for 100 coins less and set them all yourself, avoiding any possible subterfuge. Trappers may lay as many as two extra traps a day, and up to two traps all the way into the final battle. Trappers increase all of the traps' ratings by 10%.

Healing is a useful ability, allowing you to heal yourself, your allies, and your hirelings even without potions.

Martial Arts gives you many useful abilities. These abilities can aid you in attacking, defending, and even escaping. With martial arts, you can dual-wield weapons that any creature could normally wield in one paw, as well as increasing your weapon's speed by one level. Martial Arts also gives you the ability to perform deadly moves with your bare paws.

With training in strategy you and your allies gain a great advantage, whether in attacking, defending, or retreating from battle. In an all out battle, a Captain can turn the tides against even the greatest odds.

Stealth gives you the ability to enter and escape battle quickly, as if you had vanished into thin air. Perfect for guerilla tactics for the lone attacker on one target.

You have a 50% chance of turning any assassins, medics, or poisoners sent to attack you back upon their sender. They will then proceed to do the planned attack, except to the one who paid for them. Also, all spies will return with no information. This is the only way spies are not 100% effective- against Subterfuge they are 25% effective.

All of your weapons will become poisoned. You can mix your own poison potions at will, and they do not count among your weapon limits. Also, you can hire poisoners for 500coins cheaper than normal, thus making the cost range from 250-2000coins.
