El Refugio

Algar is a very traditional spanish village with beautifully preserved 2 storey balconied houses, surrounded by orange groves. It is well placed for walking holidays, being near the Sierra Calderona. Alternatively, the beach is only 20 minutes drive away, and the city life of Valencia 30 minutes, including the airport. From January to March, skiing is available at Valdilinares and Javalambre, both centres within 1 hour of Algar. 'El Refugio' is in the oldest street in Algar, just off the main square. It's basement served as a hideout in the Spanish Civil War and this refuge is thought to have a tunnel that leads out of the village. There are several shops, as well as 2 bakeries, a butchers, and 3 bars/restaurants all within 200 metres. There is also an outdoor swimming pool within easy walking distance which is open from end June until mid september. The apartment sleeps up to 5 people., with 2 bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, shower room and a small terrace.
