It is a country of great diversity and unmatched beauty in its landscape,
its wildlife and its people. South Africa has it all - from untamed
bushveld, sun-drenched beaches and serene mountains to cosmopolitan
cities. The climate is incomparable, with year-round sunshine. The people
are amongst the friendliest in the world and as eclectic as the landscape.

The Kruger National Park measures
350 kms north to south with a minimum width of 60 kms and a maximum
width of 90 kms east to west. This covers a total area of 20,000 square
kms which is equivalent to the size of Israel. The major rivers are
the Crocodile, which forms the Park's southern boundary, and the Limpopo
which forms the northern boundary. Other perennial rivers, flowing from
west to east, include the Sabie, Olifants, Letaba and the Luvuvhu.
The plant life
varies from subtropical to tropical, as approximately one third of the
Park lies within the tropic belt to the north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
A total of 1986 plant species, including 457 tree and shrub species,
as well as 235 species of grass, have been recorded in the Park. The
Kruger National Park is home to an impressive number of species: 147
mammals, 507 birds, 336 trees, 49 fish and 34 amphibians.
The
altitude varies from 442m above sea level at Punda Maria in the north
to 839m at Khandizwe near Malelane in the south, with the central part
approximately 260m. Average daily temperature in January is 30 degrees
Celsius and 23 in July. The extreme maximum can be 47 for January and
35 for July.
