About The Artist REGI- |
Born, 1956. Born and raised in Santa Ana, California. Now living in Columbia, South Carolina, since 1988. Father, born in Chihuahua, Mexico, a naturalized citizen, of Native Mexican decent. Mother, born in El Centro, California, of Native American descent. Both parents dropped out of high school to help support their families. Father, died in the 1990’s. Mother, still living in California. Brought up in a lower-middle class neighborhood, known as Delhi. Gang violence ruled in Santa Ana. In 1968, 69 & 70, the government reported it as having the highest crime rate, per capita, in the US. Many childhood friends were killed in gang related crimes. Exposure to the violent side of, “The Facts Of Life” was no problem. Parents, wanting a better life for their kid’s, tried to encourage the educational aspects as well as exposure to nature, art galleries, as well as science, natural history & technology museums, and learning to play music from a young age. With no formal training in Fine Arts or Lifecast sculpture, first interest came from a 5-minute segment on a TV special about 1998. After finding a source for materials in 2002 and extensive researching, online and at the library, the first piece, (Don S - Finger Tips Left 01) was cast successfully in early 2003. With the welcome support, encouragement and critiques of a few good friends, (some who volunteered as models for the artist), the results of this and other pieces created since, are included in this album. Although the pictures don’t capture the finer details of the actual pieces, they do show the variations of Lifecastings that can be done. |
