To the Editor:
I am writing to express my support for the Bush administration's policy towards Iraq.
I believe that Saddam Hussein presents a clear threat to the security of Iraqi citizens, the middle east and the rest of the world.

For twelve years, Hussein has ignored the Security Council's resolutions requiring his disarmament.  He has consistently played games with the inspectors and the United Nations, doing only as much as was necessary to give the semblance of cooperation, only to abandon cooperation when the pressure was relieved.  Twelve years is sufficient opportunity to comply with United Nations resolutions regarding his armaments.  If we let him off the hook now, we will be in this position again in three, or five, or ten years.

No sane person lightly undertakes warfare.  But the folly of peace at any cost has been shown time and again in history.  I'm certain that in retrospect, the French and British politicians of the day wished that they had acted when Hitler announced the rearmament of Germany in 1935.  Let's not keep our heads in the sand with respect to Hussein.  Let's not wait until he acquires nuclear material, and can blackmail us with threats to use it.

Finally, the Iraqi people deserve to be delivered from this murderous tyrant.  We are in the unique position of being able to achieve this aim.  They are counting on us to do so, as has been reported by correspondents like the New York Times' John F. Burns and Newsweek's Melinda Liu.  Is it really right to let perpetual "againsters" like France stand in the way?

I urge this publication and its readers to support the president's policy, even if it means war.
Sincerely,
