What is Xellos' last name?

On about 90% of Slayers sites, you will find Xellos referred to as "Xellos Metallium". Though Xellos' last name is never mentioned in the show, it has often been assumed that his last name would be the same as his master's, Zelas Metallium (and Metallium is not her last name, but part of her full name). This idea is probably formed from the fact that Gaav's follower was named Valgaav. But this seems to suggest a family relationship between Xellos and his master where none exists. There is no concept of family among the mazoku. Xellos' last name is not Metallium, and I'll stick to that unless someone can give me a part in the series, manga, or novels that states that it is.

So, if his last name is not Metallium, then what is it? The simple answer is: Xellos doesn't have a last name. No mazoku has a last name, and Xellos is no exception. But it seems that some people find it strange to refer to someone with one name only, particularly when placing Xellos with someone else, romantically.

If Xellos' master is Zelas Metallium, why was he working for Phibrizo in next?

Through some research, I was able to discover the answer to this. I don't have much information on this, except that Phibrizo had his plan of making Lina cast the Giga Slave, and he needed someone to follow her and keep her alive. He decided to "borrow" Xellos because he was the strongest mazoku aside from the five subordinates of Shabranigdo. This upset Zelas but she did not do anything about it. (If you have more information on this, or if the info here is wrong, please let me know.)

Is Xellos really an evil person? I mean, he helps Lina sometimes.

Yes, Xellos is truly evil. Despite how he seems during NEXT, he is a mazoku and all mazoku are evil. They live off of negative emotions. It isn't that Xellos chose to be evil, he was born that way and is therefore incapable of good. Not that he wants to be good, or anything.

Yes, I know that he helped Lina several times, but that wasn't for her sake at all. In Slayers NEXT, he only saved her because he had to keep her alive until Phibrizo's plan was complete. And he only seemed good because he was pretending to be human. He always had an alterior motive. In TRY, he told Valgaav that if Valgaav joined the mazoku, he would kill Lina for him. And later, he stole Galvayra from her. And his ultimate evil deed was killing thousands of Golden Dragons, and he enjoyed it. Xellos is evil and he always will be.

I've heard fans say that mazoku can't love. Is this true?

Yes, it is true. Love is a positive emotion. Mazoku live on negative emotions. Positive emotions like love would hurt them. And besides that, they are incapable of feeling love anyway.

Many people will argue this, but I truly believe that Xellos cannot love someone. And I think the only reason that people say that mazoku can love is that they want to put Xellos in a relationship with someone (the most popular person being Filia). Now, I object to all couples that include Xellos for this reason. I will say, however, that if Xellos were not mazoku and Filia didn't hate him quite as much, I would think that he and Filia would make a good couple, and I support them, in that respect. But otherwise, I think love, for Xellos, is impossible.
