History

Xellos is a mazoku. He is a priest and general to Beastmaster Zelas Metallium. Xellos fought in the Kouma war, during which he singelhandedly killed thousands of gold dragons in one attack.

Meeting the Slayers

Xellos met Lina and the others in Slayers NEXT. His job was to follow them to make sure Lina did not die, so that Phibrizzo could use her to cast the Giga Slave. Xellos helped Lina, minimally, but was hurt (twice) when he fought against Gaav and left to regenerate. He didn't come back until the last episode.
In Slayers TRY, Xellos returned, and his mission was to kill Valgaav. But, when Valgaav brought Darkstar to their world, Xellos' mission changed to sending Darkstar back to his world. (The reason being: if anyone destroys the world, it will be the mazoku.) So Xellos tried to get the fifth weapon, Galveria. He got the weapon, and helped Lina and the others to defeat Darkstar.

Power

Xellos is a very powerful mazoku. The only mazoku more powerful than he are Shabranigdo and his subordinates. (And of course, The Lord of Nightmares and the three other Dark Lords, but they aren't in the same world.) Xellos has enough power to kill thousands of gold dragons with ease. Because he is both priest and general, he gains the power of both, which is why he is Zelas' only servant.
Xellos fights in one of three ways. Often times, he will just attack with his staff. He will sometimes (though not often) use black magic. But, while humans use black magic to call upon a mazoku's power, Xellos, being a mazoku himself, uses his own power for the spells. The third way he fights is using his astral form, which is a cone. Xellos used this form to kill Saygram and fight Valgaav.
Xellos' other powers are teleportation and regeneration. Xellos teleports like all other mazoku. He pulls his body into the astral plane then places it in another location. Xellos regenerates fairly quickly. He can regenerate large wounds in a matter of a few hours.

Personality

Xellos is mysterious and secretive. He comes and goes when he pleases (and especially when he is needed most), and he answers most questions about him and his mission with the words, "That is a secret." This is because he is also very loyal to him master and will not tell anyone of Zelas' true intentions. Xellos, being a mazoku, is also evil. Xellos is both a sadist and a masochist, meaning that he likes to hurt others and to be hurt himself. He also likes to annoy people, because, as a mazoku, he lives off negative emotions. He will make a situation difficult by not giving all the information, then, in the end, say, "It was more amusing this way."
