Saturday was the big hiking adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park. Under the guidance of Mike we headed to the Deer Mountain Trailhead to start our journey. It was an excellent experience. Check it out!

    Big Sandwiches!
This is early into our hike; Nicki loves Deer Mountain!
The whole trail up the mountain was very scenic.
After a three mile hike and a little more than a thousand foot elevation gain we reached the summit!
    Where's Waldo?...I mean, Where's Nicki?
The summit of Deer Mountain offers a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view. It's beautiful.
On the trail up, we kept finding random piles of rocks, so eventually we started adding to the piles or even starting our own. So this huge pile was at the top, and Nicki added to the very top. It was a job well done!
Here is a different view from the top.
    And another.
    Followed by one more.
Here is my attempt to use the timer on my camera to get a picture of Nicki and I together on top of Deer Mountain.
    Deer Mountain is cool.
This view is looking down at Estes Park.
This is my favorite tree. He was right on the top of the mountain. You can see Nicki's rock pile just to the left of it.
This was our scrambling adventure. I eventually followed Nicki up to this rocky edge, however I didn't get quite as close to the edge as she is. She wanted to go to the next peak up behind her, but I wouldn't let her. It was a lot more dangerous than the picture makes it seem. Besides we had already strayed far enough from the path that we almost missed it.
On the way down we stopped for a few final pictures.
    This photo is pretty sweet.
Right before we got to the bottom I heard, "Hurry get your camera!" This elk was chilling right by the path.
This was a drive-by shooting. Estes Park Elk really like mini golf.
On the way out we took a moment to play tourist, visiting the Stanley Hotel.
I have yet to read or see The Shining, so I still don't quite understand the thrill of it all, but its a really pretty place.
