RESEARCH INTERESTS OF DR. K. MURALEEDHARA VARIER

In my home institution, basically I am interested in the investigations of the interactions of gamma and X-rays with matter. The various processes I am interested in are the photo electric effect, Compton scattering and elastic scattering. Connected with this, I carry out some studies on the attenuation measurements and the application of such measurements in various fields.

We have also a continuing program of studies using nuclear solid state track detectors, like CR-39, Overhead transparency sheets etc.

Right from the establishment of the Nuclear Science Centre at New Delhi, I have been associated with the centre. I have been involved in the initial discussions for the installation of the Heavy Ion Reaction Analyser (HIRA) there. I have carried out several experiments on the sub barrier fusion reactions of systems like 46,48Ti + 58,60,64NI, 19F+Nb. I was also involved in nucleon transfer studies, also at sub barrier energies on systems like 32S + 60,64Ni, 48Ti + 60,64Ni etc. Currently I am working on the anomalous anisotropies in the fission fragment angular distributions in 12,13C + 235U systems at near and sub barrier energies.
